It was a sunny day yesterday. I packed a pump, two extra tubes, all kind of tools etc in my bag and took the tube to the lockable bike shed in another part of town where my bike spent the winter. This was the day when I was gonna wake it up from its winter sleep, fix it for hours, perfect it and so on until it would take me home or anywhere I wanted. I had longed so much for this moment lately!
Well, it wasn't there. :( :( :(
What an anti-climax, what a disappointment, when the only thing I wanted was to get ready for this season's serious commuting (I've moved and have a longer way to work now). Now I have to buy a new bike, which is sort of fun but only when you can afford it. Which will be in ... May? Yeah, why not.

Sucks
Just curious about your system. Why not keep it at home? What is a lockable bike shed? Is it a public place where everyone keeps their bikes? What will keep it form happening again with your new bike? Does this happen often to others? Is your bike insured?
Dood, that's tough. And I KNOW youall have some rare good winter days where you can actually ride. It's way cold there- just visited Stockholm and Lulea myself last week. It is surprising- I was under the impression that things like that didn't happen often- I saw plenty of bikes people were riding unlocked, and no one seemed to mind or be concerned that unlocked bikes were sitting around.
:(
Was the bike registered with the authorities or anything? What kind of bike was it?

Well, I did keep it at home for the first year/s, despite my flat was only 18 sqm!! The lockable shed is actually a room in the basement of my (former) apartment building. Only residents of that building have the keys, but sometimes in winter it doesn't close properly, and it has access directly from the street. I might get some money from my normal home insurance. Bikes are stolen very often here (as in most places?), but my CyclePro Crossroads (cost 630 dollars = middleclass hybrid bike) has been safe so far with this Kryptonit lock.
Koffee, maybe they don't lock their bikes in the northern part of Sweden (they don't even lock their doors...), but here in Stockholm I've never encountered an unlocked bike. On the contrary, the two times I forgot to lock my old bike in Uppsala (student town close to Stockholm), it got stolen (and the second time I didn't get it back). I blame myself of course, not with this new theft though.
Some years I ride the whole winter, despite sometimes 20 centimeters of snow. Not this winter though, and now I'm punished for it!!!
Too bad. :( Yeah, in Lulea, they don't even lock their doors. The building may be locked, but once you're inside, you could walk into just about anyone's apartment.
Do you have insurance on your bike at all? Can you get your money back if you bought it on your credit card? Some credit cards have insurance on stuff you bought using the credit card.

Sorry to hear about your luck :( No insurance or anything like that? What type of bike are you looking at getting next?
