Do any of you R.I. folks know of any good bike shops in the Providence/Newport area? Fixie-friendly is always good, but not a must. I'll be working/staying there for six weeks, am taking a bike (likely not the fixie tho), and always like to visit the good shops when I travel. I know this probably isn't the correct forum to ask, but figured fixie/ss riders would know the difference between a "good" shop and the typical Gary Trekalizedale volume dealers that are so prevalent these days. Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any in Rhode Island but checkout Community bikes in Boston or Harris Cyclery in Newton. Wheel works in Sommerville is also pretty cool. Cambridge bikes in Cambridge. There is alot of them out here.

circle a cycles are in prov somewhere, but like hammye says you can always go up to boston, it's only 50 miles, i've ridden it before with a crappy state map that meant I went all the way up route one, not so fun. Or you can just take the commuter rail, you can take your bike on the commuter rail too.

...is my shop of choice, though i wouldn't necessarily call them fixie friendly. they have anything and everything you could want, though, and they're only about a 10 minute bike ride from the center of town. they're really friendly folks.
