Just wondering what the scuttlebut is out there on Mavic Open Pro rims for strength/durability? Specifically, I want a light, quality rim for 100K rides (80%)that will also do me occasional loaded touring (20%). I was looking at them yesterday in a shop and with their welded seam, double pinning and double eyelets, the Open Pro seemed very well made and tough. They're skinny for touring but could take 28 or 32 tires I was told. Can someone advise me? (I also looked at the cheaper MA3 but they are not pinned or welded and the joint on the braking surface is quite visible and does not fill me with confidence.) I am planning on getting a local shop to build my wheels. Was considering using Deore hubs back and front. Any better options for the price?

I've used Alex Adventurer rims on Deore LX 36h hubs with 14 gauge spokes in a 3x pattern for loaded touring without any problems. I've also toured on a set of Coda hubs/rims (the ones that came stock on my Cannondale T2000). I sold that bike and can't remember the model names (Expert hubs, I think)... they worked fine as well. Lots of folks use Sun Cr18 rims for touring and seem happy. The Sun rims are my choice for my new, as-yet-to-be-delivered touring bike.
