Let's go!:)

I'll post a ride, but I don't know if I'll be better or not to go. Came down with something last night. Sore throat, fever, etc.

I'll likely head out for a ride Saturday late AM. Not sure where but that's my allotted ride time.

How about the Livermore Loop? Or maybe a Dublin loop that includes Palomares?

The Livermore loop would be a reprise of the loop I led about a month ago, about 45 miles and more wind than climbing with places to stop and eat.

The Dublin loop would start at the hotel parking lot adjacent to the 580/680 interchange (a couple miles from the Pleasanton BART station), go south on Foothill to Sunol, west on Niles Cyn, north (up) Palomares to Dublin Blvd, and then east on Dublin Blvd to the start to close the loop. About 30 or so miles with one major climb, but only Sunol or the end of the ride for a chance at coffee/food.

I like the no wind ride! Maybe stop after the ride for a Pizza fest!?

Well, it would really be a "less wind" ride with a significant climb tossed in for good measure. I'll try to get it mapped out and posted up so you can see it. The climb up Palomares is fairly steep, gains about 1,000 feet in elevation, is shaded and car traffic is low.

Be advised that you'll drop me pretty quick on this one, but I know my way back to the car. :)

Henry, are you thinking of 10 and riding in the Peninsula area?

Palomares is great, but I'm not such a big fan of Niles Canyon (at least car traffic is lower on a weekend). I wish there was another way to get to the foot of Palomares. BBM does seem to pull in the crowds for these rides!

The route could be extended by heading towards Castro Valley instead of Dublin after coming off of Palomares. Then you'd have a choice of Crow Canyon/Norris Canyon (adds maybe 15 miles and another good climb - steeper but not as long as Palomares), returning by San Ramon Valley Blvd, or going all the way to Redwood, and back by little Pinehurst, through Orinda and Lafayette and down Danville/San Ramon Valley Blvd. This adds a couple of hills and would double the mileage to about 60. For the really ambitious, you'll go right by lots of good stuff in Orinda - the 3 bears, pig farm hill, Wildcat Canyon/Inspiration point, etc.

As usual, I'm already booked (jeez, when will these kids get to college already?!!) - soccer games both Saturday and Sunday mornings. However, you might see me out there in the afternoon. Then again, I haven't been up Diablo in a while.....

How about a Gladiator's extension, up to the top of Patterson Pass, and Pete can tell us how much we all suck, and put the hammer down, then back via Altamont Pass? We'll see if Marco and Ruth can reach light speed! :D

You balk at the traffic in Niles, but have no problem on Crow Canyon? :twitchy:

Another route - start at the park 'n ride lot at the 680/Bollinger Cyn exit, ride up through Moraga to Redwood Rd and then down into Castro Valley. Then you hook up with Dublin Cyn down to Foothill and turn left to return to the starting point.

That would be 50+ miles.

Crow Canyon isn't the greatest cycling road either, but between Castro Valley and Norris Canyon it only has a couple of places where the shoulder gets iffy - Niles Canyon has a couple of miles like that, and the road just doesn't seem wide enough for the amount and speed of the traffic it gets. It probably doesn't help that I often ride it in the morning on weekdays, just as traffic gets heavy heading towards Fremont. I still ride it a lot - Palomares is too nice to miss out on.

Coming from Palo Alto but need to be home by 12:30 for a wedding in the early afternoon. I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do for rides this weekend. What's your current thinking on that ride?

I think I'm going to take a shot at the Palomares loop on Saturday. If you wanna get it firmed up we can make it something official.

I was going to start from my house, but I can make the drive to Pleasanton BART and meet you (and other folks) there. If it's just a few of us, we can extend the ride on an ad-hoc basis if we want to.

Deal!

Course, you'll have to put up with the animals (cat, lab, mastiff pup) and the kids...

As an enticement, dinner tonight was roasted garlic and ham mac 'n cheese, with fresh (homemade) sourdough rolls. All we were missing was a bottle of chardonnay.

'k.

Now that I think about it, there is a killer pizza place about 2-3 miles east of Pleasanton BART - Amici's.
Let's meet up in the south side BART parking lot, say about 9am? Forecast calls for mid-80's.

Yes, as a matter of fact it is. The accommodations aren't the best, but the towels aren't scratchy and the food is good. Course, I have to clear each visit with my bride first. But in general, the offer stands.

Now, you may be required to bring an appropriate bottle of wine to complement dinner...

This Saturday I might try to form a ride around the Low Key Hill Climb.

Maybe something like this:

- Canada to Woodside, up Kings to Skyline to the Start (Bear Gulch) as a warmup.
- Hill Climb Race (Bear Gulch)
- Down Kings
- Summit Springs
- Whatever else...
