Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - A dream

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Aside from a bike I'd like to have.. which isn't a dream, just something I'm putting off..
I ride past it everyday.. and it calls to me... I can picture how I'd fix it up.. I have it all planned out. Just 9 years too soon, and about 7.6 million dollars short.
What the hell am I talking about: The old wonderbread factory in downtown San Diego. I'd buy it, turn it into a coffeeshop/winebar/crash pad and live in back. Right accross from the stadium, big roll up doors.. Red brick.
What'd you do if you had decent money?

build a revolution to destroy capitalism.
it would be beautiful in it's nihilistic, destructive irony. and that's probably the reason that it would fail. [if an excess of money was the only reason for it's forced demise]

please make it a co-operative if that idea ever becomes any more than that.

You rock, sparky! First it's smash capitalism, then f-k objectification of women.
Nice to read it, at least.

I'm unfamiliar with the co-op idea. At this point, I'm not looking to get rich of the backs of others. I'd be hiring personality, and thinkers..
Just a place that's mine, and I could put my feet up in.. close early when I want.. stay open late.
it wouldn't be the conventional wine bar.. nothing high priced... just a place to kick back, put your feet up.. I'm not good with snobs. Hell, I'm not good with most..

The upper portion would be a live/work loft for local artist. We'd sell them (non consignment, all towards the artist) in the shop it self.
So, yeah. Rent'd be cheap too.

that's the great advantage of a steel one. i haven't tried titanium yet though.

I understand that the Ti based crack pipes are impervious to flame blueing. So much better looking after an all night session. The aluminum ones melt in your mouth, not on your hands. But the steel makes it all seem real.

Actually, I am looking for a small town urban storefront with living space over it to get out of Ohio to. No Lawn to mow and the downstairs store front could house my (by appointment fixed gear bicycle business). Would need a garage around back for my parking space (back alley access). 2-3 br upstairs and high ceilings and plenty of old time moldings and details. That would be ideal for me and my wife. They exist, but all of them that I have found cheap, so far, have been in the Urban War Zones of decaying inner cities. I keep looking though.

i would turn that guy into a bike shop, one that specialized in SS/Fixies. Keep the geared bikes back in the way back, available only upon request, just like fixies/SS are now!

Well, wait a minute.
"As for the curious title, Lamm says, "It's just a reference to the time of day"--as in "waiting for the break of day" at 25 or (2)6 minutes to 4 a.m. (3:35 or 3:34 a.m.)
I think we can take Lamm's word for the whole thing. Because, when it's that early in the morning, does anybody really know what time it is?
SDSTAFF Euty comments:
Does anybody really care?" (First of all, this is not funny. Chicago's one of my favorite bands...)
I'm still confused, 3:35 is 25 minutes until 4, but where does the six come in? Am I just too tired to understand this? Maybe I am looking over something. I must say that it's always bothered me that I didn't quite understand that song...
Thank you for your help, p3ntup.

Against all of the advice posted in this thread, you've been smoking your crack out of the carbon fiber pipes, haven't you.
Carbon fiber? Schwinn? Nah! She probably just has a bike with lead based paint that she's been using for the crack.

6 as is twenty-six....without saying twenty again. Twenty-Five or Twenty-Six to Four....drop the twenty and you have 25 or six to four. 3:35 or 3:34. Get it?

Hmm, bit worried by the countless crack references, but in an attempt to return to William's dream, if I had that place, I'd do pretty much the same TBH. Coffee house/bar downstairs, with live jazz every so often (twice a week maybe), local art on the walls, free fixed gear advice to all :) I'd live upstairs, with my girlfriend of course, if there's enough space have a studio/workshop for art and bikes (but they're kinda art too), just make the whole place a cool hangout for the local bike croud.

i live in a housing cooperative for school. we--the students--run almost every aspect of the house: budgeting, planning, and everyday things such as maintenance and cleaning. for a building that houses 100+ people, it works exceptionally well (believe it or not)

Bike shop. Full of top end bikes...Saw a top end Trek the last Bike shop I was in.Also Klein has a new top end bike. Really caught my eye. Bikes are really sexy. I think bikes sell themselves to bike enthusists. But to work around them..... our sales acumen would really take off. Guess we all could sell what we love.
Wine is another passion for which I could grow into.
But then, with enough money why distract yourself from your goals...Just live on a mountain top in Southern France and go riding once/twice a day and drink wine at night.
