hi all,

I'll be visiting New York City next week and have a friend in New Haven that I'd like to see. thought it could be an adventure to bike from one place to the other. just wondering if anyone has any insights--is it feasible.. or even enjoyable? or is it socked in with traffic and congestion the whole way? (I'm not familiar with the east coast obviously)

thanks in advance for any info!

I doubt there is any good way to go. You would be on main roads mostly and you would have to take some odd routes, i am not saying it can't be done just that it wouldnt be easy by any means.

Even the Adv-Cycling routes, I think have you on a train to NJ from Penn Station in NYC and then the trail goes west to PA and then north. However, there is a way I think you could take a train to Westchester Cty and go north to CT and then east to New Haven. I have ridden from NJ to Mass before, cutting through the NW corner of CT on the way back so I've only ridden through Duchess and Putnam Cty, but if you were to hit a train, it could be done. However, somebody in NYC will have better information than I, I have no idea the train schedule or even if they allow the bikes on the Metro North trains.

See if this fits your needs.

Scroll to bottom of page and check out the route they show for Greenwich at NY border to Stratford, then from Stratford to New Haven.

Sorry, I can't help with the route selection, however another consideration is the weather. It snowed in NYC and parts of Connecticut today. Even though we're suppose to experience a warm up starting the middle of next week it's still very much winter here in the northeast. Even with warm temps the roads are a mess with the sand/salt/mystery mix of snow melting chemicals. Not exactly bicycle friendly.
