I would like some feedback on the idea of a United Nations Year of the Bicycle (or Cycling). Just as the last year was the year of the Volunteer. It has to be very appropriate with climate change, sustainability and transport issues on the agenda more and more as things hot up.
If its a great idea how do we go about it?

I think it's a splendid idea. Perhaps I should talk to my friend from Ghana, which is also the homeland of Kofi Annan.

Wait, I don't understand. What was the Year of the Volunteer? Can someone explain for me?

This discussion was on the bike-oz list sometime last year. I don't think anything came of it. To be honest, most of the people who make decisions on these things seem to be pretty ignorant of the benefits of cycling anyway.
