uh-k - so I have at most times a couple packages of those dasdardly sodium bombs in my pantry just cause they're cheap and easy to keep - and cheap, etc - besides - I always have something to fall back on since I NEVER ate them at home - yet college life somehow semi-revolved around them - and booze ......

<edit - these days I prolly cut the packet of spices and salts in half - and include other items including fresh herbs and veggies - dunno - I like the consistency of the noodles actually - just cut the sodium!Z>

And so to this day I usually have a couple in my closet - although not so much anymore, now enter the roommates ... who are currently rehabbing house number 3 or 4 or perhaps both together - and so all they're monies are going into rehabbing and not really personal upkeep or decent food etc ..... and so this week is the first week ...

and today being Tuesday evening ...

that I've smelled the smell of overcooked ramon noodles three days in a row. I never realized how much it bothers yer eyes. :( yucky!

Oh yeah, the ramen is great if you know how to mess with it. Toss the packet if you can. My roomate had about 3 pounds of pulled pork from a wedding. One set of noodles and a handfull of pork in the pot is a meal.

Get rid of the packet and crush the noodles over a salad with some balsamic vinegar. Yum.

Those were definitely a college staple for me. Funny thing is that every once in a while, I still want them. I still keep a few bags around for those moments. But every day for 3 days? Yuck! There needs to be some variety. These guys need to learn about the joy of beans, potatos, tomato soup, and PB and J sandwiches. Fresh fruits and veggies are pretty cheap, too.

Shin Ramyun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_ramyun) FTW.

The owner of a neighborhood sandwich shop gave me a packet to try at home. It was so spicy that it cleared my sinuses.

Drop an egg or two in there for a bunch of protein, too. Real tasty stuff.

Coat them in eggs and fry the noodles.

Ramen + egg + sesame chili oil + chili oil = gewd.

Plus some meat like sliced steak or pork! I make something similar when I'm home by myself as my wife and daughters hate it.

+1. Also, add chopped scallion, and if you have it, one of the Japanese seaweed seasoning flake mixtures. Water chestnuts make a nice addition too.

If Ramon's noodle is X10...I can see the interest. :innocent:

I am partial to Miguel noodles. :innocent:

I doctor them up by adding little chunks of hot dog, or chicken, or shrimp, or sausage. A few drops of olive oil also helps (when added at the end). If you can find the roasted chicken, or creamy chicken flavor, the taste is way better than the more common ones.

This should be made a sticky at the top of "Foo" for college students.

When I was in a rush, I just at the noodle "pallet" like a sandwich - easy to chow down on while on bike or at a red light. Someone I know actually crushed it up, poured the MSG laden seasoning in, and spooned it out like a dry, salty cereal.

A little shrimp makes it tasty too. I have also mixed a packet of Ramen with Campbell's Chicken noodle with success - ditch the packet and rely on the Campbell's for flavor.

Thanks to this, I now have a late night craving for Ramen...

Here's what I do: Boil noodles, seasoning packet and 1 cup of water (instead of the usual 2 cups) until all the liquid has been absorbed. Mix in one beaten egg and transfer mixture to a hot frying pan coated with olive oil (butter works too). Fry both sides until crispy.

Lots of room for experimentation with this method. I like to add bacon and/or top with cottage cheese (WHAT?) and eat half of it between two slices of toast and the other half plain.

Edit: There's also http://www.mattfischer.com/ramen/. There's a recipe in there for homemade peanut sauce noodles with the spicy beef flavor (if you can find them).

Theres a specific brand of beef flavored noodles that this works awesome on.

I like to make asian grocery store runs and just get all sorts of random branded noodles. i prefer the spicy ones but generally theyre all very good. i cant touch ramen stuff.
