Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - How much is a lot?

I got a new bike from LBS on the end of April - my double square b day present:) - it was Specialized Roubiax and it came with one year tune up warranty. I took it back every so often for some adjustments and the guy always says: you put a lot of miles on it. But I am now about approaching a 1000 miles - not sure, since I biked without computer for a while and computer reads over 600.

I would not consider a tau to be a lot, weren't those bike built to be ridden?

Many folks buy a bike and don't ride it a lot. A couple of weekends a month, and perhaps a big ride once a year. Maybe they ride a couple of club rides. And that's it. You, and many of the folks who post here, are not typical.

The same thing was told to me by the owner of the LBS. When I took the bike back after one week for my 100 mile check up, he thought I was nuts. I then brought it back in another month after 500 miles. He didn't do much either time, but made some small adjustments to the shifter cable and checked the wheels for true. And then cleaned the bike again.

He said I put on more miles in the first 5 weeks than most of his customers do in 5 years.

Got a new bike March 20th. rode it 7500 miles to date.

I wouldn't say 200mi a month is 'alot', but everything is relative.

Sadly, Historian has me pegged perfectly. I am trying to break out of that category though. If and when that happens, I'll be able to justify a 'nice' bike. I ride pretty cheap stuff right now and it suits my current commitment.

I would question someone who bought a respectable bike and DIDN'T ride it at least as much as you do.

There are plenty of avid riders that see 200mi a WEEK as more the standard.

Let me clarify my remarks. While I said that many posters here on the Clyde/Athena forum are not 'typical' riders, that doesn't mean 'typical' riders, or casual riders, aren't welcome. There are a lot of hard-core posters on here, but the guy who rides five miles on Sunday with his kids, or the woman who rides three miles to work three days a week, is just as welcome, and as important, as any other poster. Bikes are good things, and we should be happy to see folks riding, regardless of how far they travel or how fast they go.

I bought my Lemond in 05. At the 30 day tuneup, I had about 800 miles on it. I had 7300 miles that year!:D

You are correct! it was meant to be ridden....Ride that bike until the tread falls off,the rear axle starts to warp,the bearings start to sound like popcorn every time you pedal...
i can speak from experience :)....i road my modified mountain bike (Deep V rims,slicks) hard...replaced everything i mentioned and kept kickin'.
