Recumbent - Slow moving vehicle triangle.

I think we've all seen them. They are required on farm tractors and any vehicle that can not maintain the speed of the other traffic.

There is also one made for recumbents. It is not the hard aluminum ones you find for farm tractors. And some are a differant color pattern. Instead of the red & orange one style for 'bents is yellow & orange. And of course they are ot as large as the type for farm equipment.

The one I have attaches to my Vision Day Bag, it attaches with 2 velcro loops to the bags "handle" and just hangs there. I just bought it & have not ridden on the street with it yet. So I don't know if it will make a differance.

Anyone else use one of these? Did it help?

Last fall, before I bought my EZ-SC1, I bought a fluorescent yellow vest with Scotchlite reflective strips built into it. It's the kind of thing you see road crews and other construction guys wear who have to work in traffic. When I got the 'bent, I realized it would do no good to wear it, 'cuz the seat back would obscure it. So I just drape it over the seat back. So I can use the same item on the 'bent and any of my various and sundry wedgies.

they sell em at my LBS. you could try there or your LBS. you could also try your local hardware store, (LHS? *giggles*) like home depo or such. think they sell such items for work crews.

Well technically they are not required for bicycles (which in most states include trikes as well :). I don't use one.. and on my Trike have never had any problems with people seeing me. Still I think a blinky rear light is a more valuable safety feature than a reflecting triangle.

When we tour we have one on the bike. Well not really on the bike, it is sewn to the bag that carries our sleep pad. The bag is on top of the rack cross ways.

Still I think a blinky rear light is a more valuable safety feature than a reflecting triangle. Blinkies aren't very effective in full daylight. Safety triangles aren't just reflective, they're fluorescent. The "day-glow" orange or yellow is remarkably eye-catching, even in a busy urban setting on a bright sunny day. That's why I got my vest; not so much for the reflective strips (which are fine for night-time), but for the big expanses of day-glow yellow.

'Course, I also have a blinky on each bike, and a wee single-LED blinky on my helmet.

I read the other day where a study was done by law enforcement that determined blinking lights attract drunk drivers. The study was done due to the increase of police officers' cars being hit during traffic stops where the police car's emergency lights were on. It also showed where cars that had broken down along the road and had their emergency flashers on were more likely to get hit by drunks. I don't know how true this is but it made me start using my light in steady mode.
As for the triangles, Hostel Shoppe sells them: http://www.hostelshoppe.com/cgi-bin/readitem.pl?Accessory=983911118 Some of the upright riders will have fun cutting on you for being slow, if you worry about that sort of thing (I don't). I guess you could always write "I may be slow, but I'm ahead of you" on it!

I use a yellow triangle on both my bents, plus a flag, plus lights front and back and I still screamed at by drivers that they can't see me on the road? And also yell at me to get off the road. Basically I think these people can't cope with bicyclists at all.

But in the long run the triangles are very helpful especially at night riding or early morning rides, I'm leaving mine on.

I did as above. I got one of the orange hunter's safety vests. My wife cut the back from it and did some hemming and added some velcro. Now it attaches to the seat back straps of my EZ-1 SC Lite. The whole back of the seat is day-glo orange.

I also have an orange crew vest over the back on my Bike E seat
