Since leaving Austin, Texas sixteen years ago, one thing I still love about Austin is the vibrant music scene. I follow it religiously in the Austin Chronicle and other on-line sources, search out CDs in my local music stores, and catch as many Austin bands as I can when they come through Portland on tour. SXSW is winding down right now in Austin, and part of the festival is the Austin Music Awards. This years big winners are Los Lonely Boys, who recieved awards for Band of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Bob Schneider, one of my favorites, received Musician of the Year. Both Los Lonely Boys and Bob Schneider tour relentlessly. I haven't seen Los Lonely Boys live yet, but hear they're awesome; I've seen Bob Schneider something like four times and he is great live. Catch them if they're in your town!!
