Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. So i was on my way to work, and someone like me can't go straight to work on garbage day lol so I took a detour, I lucked out, I found a burly thats 100% working and a like new ritchy chariot chariors, and a rear 26" alloy rim lol, heres some pics of the burly, the others packed into itself in my shed, i'll post a pic tomorow, the question is, This burly, should I leave it as is or tear all that fabric crap out and put wood, I get wood free, and sheet alloy, best part was I hooked it up and was on my way and used it to garbage pick more on the way to work lol it was to much for my poor road bike though, it needs all it's parts greased, chain went wacko

Yeah...I'd lose the fabric. 'Specially if you can get your paws on some free materials.

Lucky you! I'm trying to find a trailer I can adapt for heavy cargo and rig to my trike. I'll have to start scouring on garbage day!
I love garbage day lol i'll proberly put some 2x4 then stain them, maybe put wheel wells to, I hate when stuff hits the tires when I load

Awesome score! I would take off the fabric as well...
Should I really remove it? the sides fold down to make flatbed, and they are hard sides not soft, plus if it rains I could put them up, well I never had it fully open yet

I think you should keep the fabric, or at least replace with same. Could it be painted (dyed) in some way?
If not go for the alu sheets. 2x4 sounds heavy, remember you are going to pull it when loaded- without breaking another chain:D

I made a flat bed out of the very same model. But in my case it wasn't free. And the fabric had rotted so there were no mixed feelings about ripping it all off. It just kind of fell off.
lol I had the same problem with an old trailer, it was alloy so I split it down the middle and shrunk it because I hate wide trailers for everyday use, one wide and skinny work, this one has all the atavhments. the small wheel for front and the push bars, I don't care for the bars but that wheel will be handy, the other one I found is nice to, heres two pics of it, The other trailer I found is pretty nice to, I ripped the bottom abit bringing it home when I found it though, the clamp was broken off so I tied it to the back of the longtail and it wobbled and scraped the road abit.

I converted "Get along Lite" cheap trailer that used chainstay clamps like 5 years ago. WIth my 11 year old engineering. I used two 2x4's and a piece of plywood and rattle can spray painted the frame. It wasn't bad looking. I managed to break it in half though. I took the roll cage off, and it didn't flip as easily and was slightly lighter. I wish i had a picture, but I can envision it. Well I have a burley flatbed now. If I converted it now, with my 16 year old engineering. It would be way better.

I made a flatbed from a piece of waterproof plywood. Same trailer on both pictures. The dog can be innside (on top) or in front. You can see from the bodylanguage that he is not happy to be in front..

In order to make room for my plants, I ended up having to clean the entire apartment. First frost of the year. But it gave me an opportunity to take a photo of my trailer conversion.
I haven't figured out exactly how I will address the side/cargo gets into the spokes problem. If it's going to be a problem, I usually just tie down an Action Packer bin. Every solution I think of would end up making carrying large heavy and/or "irregular" shaped things much more difficult. Which was the original reason I wanted to do a flat bed conversion.
Hmm them trailers do indeed look nice good ideas, I think with mine I'll go with the flatbet but make wheel wells out of alloy sheets with light dutie cage supporting from under, anyone pull a trailer with a 3 speed, I just got one the other day and it was a mess but I fixed it all up and it looks new, for something thats way older then me it looks better then me lol

You could make some nice lightweight, weatherproof sides out of Coroplast. In a week, you can probably scavenge the old political yard signs.

I wish we had that stuff here, newer seen it.
Those damn signs where allover a few weeks back, some big ones are left blown over in some spots, I like the alloy sheets idea, looks nice and will paint nice, just gonna be small weel wells anyway so i'll use pieces from an old trailer that are also alloy to brace it abit more, or piece of a bike rim lol

just a suggestion, but would it work if you lowered the plywood bottom to where the original bottom was, then you would lower the centre of gravity and you would have room to place some small sides on the frame around the board? I have the same trailer and that is what I will do.
Heres pictures of them both opened, they don`t look that bad, but the yellow is ugly, the purple ones in nice condition, i`ll sell it for 50$ and keep the burly for a flatbet build.
