Hiy guys/gals its my first post and so excited :D

Anywayz...im just counting the paychecks until i get my first actual road bike and well im totally in love with it(750$ CDN).....and yeah i'm a competitve soccer player and recently the thought about actually racing with a bike has come back to me and and well i've been thinking about it on and on and on lol i just cant stop....im 18/19 and i feel i wanna switch from soccer to road cycling or possibly even traitholon but im worried that its too late for me to get somewhere high up....next Lance Armstrong? lol **wishful thinking**

My dad was an "amateur" cyclist back in Poland and he almost made the Olimpic team but he got totally injured and he tells me its too late for me to actually have a chance at getting somewhere , that back in Europe they start when they're really young.....is cycling like Soccer where u gotta start early to actually make any impact? Like i have excellent leg power and i LOVE to ride bikes like i made a 110Kilometer trip with one break and a ****ed up mountain bike LMFAO and i still had energy. Im totally into endurance and well i have this passion which i cannot explain LOL and i think cycling can help me utilize that :P anywayz im just a ranting teen who really needs some help...some direction...any help would be great :))

me email is danielhohol@hotmail.com.....any tips and stuff would gladly be appriciated...im in the Toronto Area if it helps

Since you are a teenager you can go as far as your genes will allow. Most top racers don't realize their full potential until they hit their late 20s/early 30s.

Find a good group of strong riders and ride as often and as hard as you can.

Read cycling training books and develop an organized approach to training. You can always use the forum for comments, etc.

If you have a passion for it, go like hell. You are not too old. Good luck.

Lance excelled at other sports before he turned to cycling. And his career can be broken into 2 stages - pre and post cancer. Pre-cancer, he relied entirely on his body strength to power his way through races. He was strong but relatively heavy and undisciplined. Post-cancer, he is lighter, more agile and much smarter.

It's never too late. Look at me - I'm 43 - the Dodgers are bound to call any day now.

I believe the lung is the last organ to increase in size\volume in a growing person.
You are able to increase this organs size\ability until 24 years of age.

Debunk the myth, show the old man. If not a world class racer, you'll be able and confident in what you have achieved.

And sport guys get all the chicks.

Im sort of in the same boat as you. im 19, just bought my first road bike. I dont think ill be doing any racing this season (maybe a couple crits towards the middle or end of the season near my house (you should check them out at www.midweekclub.com (http://www.midweekclub.com))) but ill be working like a mofo so hopefully next season i can join a club and start racing. I think if you just put everything you've got into something you can take it to where ever you want to go with it. just my $0.02

It's not too late. Just go get in all your base training to get a strong powerful aerobic profile like Lance, if you want to be like him. Lol. It is definitely possible, dare to dream and dare to do.
