Cyclocross - 10 speed chain on a dura ace 3/32 track chainring?

this is for road and not cyclocross applications, but i thought i would ask here since it seems a single chainring front is used more often for cyclocross. i want to use the truvativ track cranks as a single chainring front and the only 144bcd chaining is dura ace 3/32 track. can i use this chainring with a sram 10 speed road chain (model 1070)?

ps, im not worried about dropping my chain, ive used a single chainring front for years with no guard and its been fine...

If you are running 3/32" most people opt for an 8spd chain. Your 10spd chain should work, but it will just have a smaller outside to outside dimension than an 8spd chain, but I believe they should have the same inner plate to inner plate dimension.

The chain will mesh fine with the chainring. It is possible that dropping may happen, and is impossible to know before you try it. Unfortunately, it's more practical to start with a crank that is 130 or 110 bcd for the large variety of chain guards available in those sizes.

An 8-speed chain will only work with an 8-speed or less drivetrain. It sounds like they have a 10-speed setup going.

i run a 1x9 set-up without any chain guard (on a 130bcd crank), and get virtually no chain suck and chain drop. just vigilant chain cleaning and lubing; of course i'm also mostly on the road.

i used to get more chain suck with AL chain rings and Sram chains--both of which ought to be fine. but it didn't work for me, for whatever reason. so now, despite the hassle, i run a riveted chain, which seems to suffer less from poor-chain-line suck; i also use an SS chain ring, which takes the cruelty of life a little better.

in any event, it seems like you should be fine.

really not worried about the chainguard, ive been running mine just fine without. so far one person confirmed that a 10 speed chain "should" work on a 3/32 track chainring, anyone else agree or know for sure that this is the case? thanks

You are right, I was just thinking track crank -> fixed gear

I figured that. Just wanted to make sure the OP got it.

sorry, im a little confused. this says an "8 speed chain" will only work with an 8 speed or less drivetrain. what about a "10 speed chain"?

will it work with a 3/32 track chainring for a single chainring front?

10 speed chain should work fine on the single chainring. How many cogs do you have on the rear?
That's where the 10, 9, or 8 speed chain will make a difference.

Assuming that you have 10 gears in the back, your 10-speed chain is what you need.

10spd chain will work with 10 or less speeds inback and whatever infront, chainrings are pretty universal as far as chains go the "10 speed" cranks are just the same generation as the rest of the 10 spd stuff, but you could run a 9 or less speed crankset with 10 speeds, or a 10 speed crankset on an 8 speed divechain w/e its all good upfront

generally the shifters and the cassette have to match and the chain must be = or greater # of speeds ie 9 speed cassette means you could run a 10 speed chain if u want to (but it would just cost more) you can often get away with using the wrong deraileur, i have an old 7spd rsx derail on my 1x9 cross bike and it works great, but i wouldn't try that on 10spd setup cause the tolerances are really tight but it might work dunno, (rsx derail was gonna be a temporary but its worked so well i never bothered to change)
