Northern California - Alternative to Craigslist?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone have a suggestions on where to post a bike for sale locally?
Craigslist is becoming a thieves den and I don't know if I can trust buyers anymore so I'm
looking for an alternative means of selling a really nice bike. I don't want to post here since
I don't plan on shipping it anyway. This would be strictly a local cash & carry sale.
thanks!

Most people who use Craig's List are still non-thieves. There are enough bad guys around to merit being careful but not to give up on a whole community.
Before Craig's List I've had luck posting photos at LBS bulleting boards.

You can maybe arrange to meet somewhere if you don't want a stranger coming to your house.
I meet at my local Starbucks sometimes.

I always feel strange about meeting someone like this. I feel like I look like I stole the bike and now I'm
trying to dump it.
Well maybe I will go back to Craigslist and give it try again.
Craigslist is still the best source IMHO. I've bought two bikes from CL in the last couple of years. I think that talking to an owner for five minutes can give you a very very good idea of whether the bike is hot or not.

Have the buyer meet you at your work place.

I had a little bit of luck posting my bike on Roadbikereview.com. Nobody actually bit but I got some interest. Ended up putting the bike on Ebay and sold it within a day. I'm in the process of selling a mountain bike right now and have only done craigslist. No interest yet... probably going the same route as before..... ebay once again.
Good looking bike. I didn't know Co-Motion made singles- I thought they were just a tandem manufacturer.
I don't think I'd ever sell a bike on eBay except to a local buyer due to the problems related to packing and shipping. Or if I did, I'd make the buyer pay for professional packing and shipping, which would likely make the sale not cost effective for either of us. But I guess I'm lucky enough to live in a place with a thriving used bike market.

$650 for that bike sounds like a great deal. Really nice looking bike!

It doesn't look like the cable is threaded through the frame at all.

I've had good luck with CL selling high end guitars every first call has come that day and bought, although I still get a lot emails from the Ivory coast from village princess's with gold for trade : )
Just got my salary cut and extraneous labor charges have been capped at $10 opposed to my minimum $25, so I'm now looking for a new managment job...I'll have less money, but I'm going to jump into the bike big time now! I've already signed up for all the European Grand tours!
Just waiting for a team that maybe interested in a 54 year old "legend of his own mind"....

Seriously.... I saw that too. Naivety much?
It was locked to a fence Sunday afternoon at $750... I wish I had that kind of cash atm, wouldn't mind upgrading from my BD bike.
Might as well make off with the fork, bars and seat...
Just kidding.
Maybe just the front brake.

*race x to the bike*Wow, you're right.
To the operator of quick-releases goes the frame, to the owner of bolt-cutters goes some sweet Sciroccos.

It is a very good deal. I bought a Pinarello Surprise frameset exactly like that a year or so ago, and paid $300 for it.
$650 for a complete Pinarello, even a "low-end" one, is an exceptional deal.
One might even say that it's a... surprising deal?

Hey Pete, why not make a serious run at the top 3 on BikeJournal. These stats are filtered on California only. (all ages, all sexes). You are currently ranked 10th. Just call out "on your left" when passing. :)

Oooh I need to step up my game:lol:
thanks for the info!
I would guess that it's a lot easier to rack up miles in flatter parts of the state!
