Northern California - Night Ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Once again, another night ride in the hills of San Mateo.
Ramon and I will be doing a ride tonight. Ruth might come on the tandem.
The route is 23 miles with 3200 feet of ascending.

Pete, where you at man!
Grab the limited/express caltrain @ 6:56 and be here at 7:22 (that's only 26 minutes) :thumb:
Although, you'll probably get home kind of late. :crash:

I'd be interested if you start later. I've been heading out around 9pm.
In fact I headed out around 9pm yesterday for a San Bruno Mountain loop with my friend, broken thumb and all.
Ah, I wish I could attend. Finally a reason to load up on lights. Sounds like fun.
Can't make this one, but I might be up for it another time. I have basic visibility lights (Planet Bike Blaze and Superflash), but they wouldn't help me much on a dark, high-speed decent. Are you guys running "real" lights?

Well I miss riding with your guys/gals. I've been doing Tue/Thurs at the Polofields with PizzaMan and Constant rider, but if you are doing this as a regular Thursday thing, I'm gonna try to make it down there next week.
BTW you guys are killing the climbs lately! I'm friggin jealous...I feel left out...:(

We did Wednesday last week.
It's kind of a mid-week thing.
We just got back. Ruth and I on the tandem, and Ramon.
Ruth, cannot do Tues or Wed, but then again she can't do it every week anyway (because of school work).
So Wednesdays are open for me on my solo bike (like last week).
I think Ramon's schedule depends on band practice.
T'was a good ride tonight. Excellent weather, good climbing, low traffic.

Are you guys doing a night ride tomorrow? If so what time and where...I'm considering depending on the work load maybe riding down and meeting you guys. I think this weekend may be a total wash out, so I want to get in the miles.

Hey Henry, we just do laps around the track, but it's a good time. It looks like " Area 51" with all the blinking lights! Pretty big turnouts...:thumb:

If it's raining I'm really not sure...unless I get "Brow beat" into it.

Let me know your ideas...You could alway's come up here a little early so you can put on you "Little Bo Peep" Costume
Cathy was thinking of doing me up like "Zena":notamused:
I don't know about the beard though...If I shaved it off, it would probably grow back by 10 the next morning, or the next "Full Moon":roflmao2:

You wouldn't need to go as far as Canada. I live close to Crystal Springs.
Here's the route:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/San-Mateo-Neighborhood-Hills-Refined
PS - I'm also 5 min from Hillsdale Caltrain.
PS(2) - There is an Extra 10 miles or so I can tack on by going on the trail from Ralston to Canada, and go to Edgewood and back. But, it's mostly flat (aka junk miles) ;) Although Canada is very peaceful and relaxing at night.

I haven't done Crestview yet, and it's supposed to be a good one:
Here's the specs on Crestview:
Max. grade: 16%
Avg. grade: 8.3%
Length: 1.44 miles
Here's the specs and Bikely for the longer version:
33.4 miles
4108 feet of ascent
