Foo - Neutered male cats

Are they supposed to retain their testicles? I was under the impression that cats can get a vasectomy, but it is cheaper for a method that has the testicles removed. Anyways, we got a cat a while back and he acts as if he isn't fixed (scent glands go haywire, very interested in females cats - not so much males, erections, etc.), but according the the adoption place (SPCA or Humane Society, I forget) he is fixed.

Or am I way off since any rudimentary knowledge I have is concerning bunnies?

Our original theory was that cats that are older and then fixed still have their testicles, but the neighborhood stray male doesn't have his stuff and he did a year ago and a couple of other cat owners we know have cats that are ball-less.

We're confused.

Not always. I had a neutered cat as a kid that stayed sleek and toned his whole life.

This is the way my Fixed Male acts too......
He humps the female cat sometimes and he has a toy

They can have them totally removed or sometimes they just go in and basically do a vasectomy.

I think they will act differently depending if they were fixed prior to or after puberty.

Both my boy kitties have lost their "boys". One got kind of fat (but he is a big kitty to begin with) and the other is still sleek.

My friend's cat is like huge.

Actually they are cheaper than a female (getting fixed) as it is non invasive.

Personally I always went for the female cats cause I never wanted the spraying, etc - thinking that it could last with the male cat - but it was my ex who got a vibrant male manx cat - who he had neutered at 6 months - and I never really thought of how it was done .... when I asked my ex (who by then had totally fallen in love the cat), he kinda went ashen and said well there's no stiches.

No stitches? No, they basically give them an general anesthesia shot (some vets have the cats go under I guess) and gently pull ze balls out a bit - or more than a bit and then snip - and whatever was attached to the cat kinda goes back inside and so VOILA - no stitches!!

Haveta say - I looked at my boy when he came home and I could not see where anything was or ... anything. He didn't walk funny, or anything. He is a bigger cat - or so he looks anyway - I weighed him the other day and he's under 10 lbs - however he does have some of the loose skin/flabby area on the lower abdomen even though he is an extremely active cat.

I'm not worried about it at all. While he is my only cat (sigh - had a kitten till a few weeks ago as well), I keep food in my bedroom (high end dry food - two kinds - with one geared toward hairballs) - I seem to be feeding two other adult cats at the moment as well as 4 puny kittens who are supposed to be 7 weeks old - and they all live in Aunt Tude's room. ugh. But dry food is left out all the time, I do NO wet food at all, unless I have to slip him/them a pill, etc.

If he was allowed to be au-natural in this house of (at the time) 4 female cats (not neutered - and there was one in heat nearly every waking moment....) - my cat would have been tossed out by the owner of the house as he would have sprayed everything. My cat is a big, lively cat who can be still quite aggressive - but is mainly a big plushy, gentle boy who is a one woman cat and enjoys is sunny window.

Huh , now I know why he is fat. He is around 15 lbs and probably should be 11-12.

He also gets dried crusty poop stuck to his butt, but that isn't really a mystery.

Here is one: anyone know why the crusty stuff that he gets accumulated in the morning in the corner of his eye is black? Seems like it should be the same color as ours, or bunnies'...
