Northern California - Bike Hut on Tunitas Creek

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I thought at first the thread said Bike Hit on Tunitas Creek.
I did too...kind of a sad commentary on the state of things for us as cyclists, isn't it?
Anyway, it is a happy surprise that it is actually a HUT! Wow, that is really fantastic. I haven't been up Tunitas in a while but this might be good reason to make a trek over there again.

Dear all,
Since sending the email yesterday announcing The Bike Hut, we've
received so many kind thank you's and several of you have posted us on
blogs, discussion lists and we've been invited to be a pit stop for a
ride - this is great.
It looks like there'll be a lot of emails to us about The Bike Hut so
I just set up a new email address specifically for it so please
forward it along: thebikehut@potreronuevofarm.org If you posted us to
a blog and/or discussion list and have the time, please put this new
email address online for us.
Also, please pass along any suggestions for what you'd like to see at
The Bike Hut and invite others to do the same. We've mentioned we're
testing recipes for energy snacks and drinks. Any suggestions for
those?
Small lunch boxes?
What kinds of drinks? (BTW, we will NOT sell bottled/canned drinks or
packaged candies even though Bill loves Reese's cups).
Homemade juices?
Fermented milk protein drinks?
What kinds of homemade snacks?
Bike supplies? What kind?
Coffee?
Lastly, the farm is partnering with Vida Verde Education -
http://www.vveducation.org/ - a wonderful program that brings kids to
the farm twice a week to learn about healthy food and the environment,
pick vegetables, milk the goats and make cheese, etc The founders of
the program, Shawn and Laura, are bike enthusiasts and got married
this summer and their wedding party/celebration consisted of a bike
ride across the country where friends joined them for legs here and
there. I just want to pass the word so you know a little more about
all that we do here. Speaking of, we're just about to crank up our
solar panels which should power the entire farm operation.
Again, our thanks for all of your help and we hope to see you at The
Bike Hut soon. Please let us know if you've posted us to a blog or
discussion list so we can see it.

"look for the red house"
I stopped by on this morning's ride. The little red hut is hard to miss on the left side of the road. Right of the hut is a picnic area with tables and benches.

Very cool. I'll have to check it out the next time I'm in the area.
I hope they're able to keep it going, be it via selling food/drink/bike bits alone, or with a mixture of that plus donations. Seems like a great location.
