Okay, you've been a good bike rider, you've gone out for your commute to work, and made sure you had a Powerbar with you, then at work you do a carb load for the ride you. But the weather is sooooooo nicccccceee, you extend the ride, sans a second or third Powerbar, you weren't planning on it, but you crank out a bunch more miles than usual, and you bonk...
What do you eat when you hit the door?
I'm sucking down Smart Water, waiting for my pasta to boil, while sugar cookies are calling my name. There's got to be a better way, other than, yeah I know, not letting this happen in the first place...
Suggestions?

Donuts and milk and I mean cake donuts they have more substance than raised ones (like Krispy Kremes they are raised) I did a ride a couple of weeks ago and found myself in bonk mode I ate brownies, energy bar nothing was working stopped at the grocers bought a dozen of their in house donuts and went home I ate four of them and drank a big glass of milk that did the trick.
I also use boxed mac and cheese (Annie's is my favorite) for a quick fill sometimes after a ride where I don't seem to be able to shake the hungries.
I think though it is important to do a lot of preemptive eating and making sure you got enough in your stomach before you ride. Of course you already know that :)
Hows the weather out there are you still getting home with icicles hanging from you? I think about you every time I think it gets cold around here, then I don't feel so bad ;)

It would have to be a loooong extension to the ride (like 100km or so) before I'd feel the need to chomp on anything extra.

I know a guy who did that last year. It's a lot longer than two days. :D The next Paris-Brest-Paris is on in another three years' time I think.

P.S. I eat pasta ASAP when I get home, plenty of replacement drink (1 litre) some sugars etc and a hot shower

I come home after a 75 mile ride and I drink a Huge Gatorade before I see my full family size dish of pasta. I grab the bread and attack my pasta with full force with bread flying everywhere....I eat it all. In one hour im hungry again.

I used to love pasta! Now, it is one of the things that are black listed.

I will eat whole wheat bread with peanut butter, and a bannana. It really depends on my glucose levels after the ride. It was 61mg/dcl after the commute home a couple of weeks ago so I really needed to eat!

Only ever got to this stage once, as the pack now carries spare powerbars and Glucose, but out on a 100 miler, and missed a snack stop and went a few too many miles. No problem as I found a village shop, and bought a large cake we have in England Called a "Lardy" cake. Very heavy stodgy cake that is made with Lard. Yes, the fat kind. My carbo loading before a long ride will now always include a full "English" Breakfast on the morning, with plenty of Protein,--Sausage and bacon, Carbos in the form of toast, baked beans and fried potatoes, and fried bread. Fat content does now always get included in the preride carbo loading, and for any of you that don't fancy a "Lardy" cake, They are delicious.

My doctor suggested I get on a 40 grams of fat or less a day diet, so fat is sort of right out. But I'm carrying Powerbars and fig newtons.
And for ngateguy, no, there are no more icicles hanging from my beard. I even managed to shave it to a soul patch. The weather's awesome right now, except for the Hills of Florida. Today they were out in force.

Once, after a four hour mountian ride(around and on the Parkway in NC) with no breakfast(we were out of milk) and only two bottles of water. I bonked and collapsed(The only bonk I ever hallucinated on) on the side of the road about four miles from the finish. My freind had to go get his truck and get me, he took me to a Pizza Inn and I had an entire large pepperoni pizza while laying down in the booth with my head hanging out of the end.
Then another time I went out on a 28 miler with a group and rode to the meeting point, I missed a turn, got lost and ended up doing over 80 miles, on a bannana and two bottles of water. I am thinking hard and I can't remember what happened after I got home(I think I took a nap in the shower), altho I do remember thinking "If I just do twenty more I have century"
