Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Bicycle computer quits working in the rain

I have a cheap CatEye Velo 8 that does everything I need it to... except work in the rain.

I think that water is getting between the mount and the computer and short-circuiting the weak signal from the sensor. I don't really want to wrap tape around it to keep the water out. Would grease be safe on the plastic?

I had the same problem. I used some electrical contact paste I purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, Radio Shack or Ace Hardware, I can't remember. By placing a touch of paste on the ball bearing contacts, slide the computer into the mount you should correct the problem.

Let me know if you need more information on the conductive paste. I can give you a brand name when I'm home.

When it rains, put a plastic baggie or plastic wrap like Saran Wrap over it with this cover secured below the mount so the water that runs off is below the contacts.

Thanks for the advice... I'll probably find some of that paste, and use the saran wrap in the rain.

Just an update. I went the sandwich bag route, with a few zip-ties.

But glow in the dark would allow me to see it at night. :lol:
