It was a snowy cold commute that day way back when, As I rode along the first mile or so. I see a bag and hear a whimper and stop to see if I can help. Inside are 4 Husky pups. They did not move when I touched them, except for the small one. She opens her eyes and looks at me as to say help me please. The next thing I know are all of them being stuffed down my jacket and off I went. I rode faster then ever before. Believe me Lance or Tyler would not have had chance.

I was only able to save Sheba (the small one) so many years ago (1991 to be exact) She grew up to be the best friend a person could ever have. She loved to go hiking, and winter camping in the Adirondacks with me.

REST IN PEACE SHEBA, You will be missed! :(

You say she will be missed but she will always be with you and you will reflect on all the good times you had. That is her legacy to you. Your good deed many years ago will reward you for a lifetime.

Thanks fujibike, She was so much a part of my life.
She would sit beside me an place her chin on the desk looking at Bike Forums and beg me to take her on a hike.
She was Top dog in my book.

So Sorry, I just had to put my (inherited) dads dog to sleep almost exactly a year after my dad died. They both had cancer. I got the dog from the pound for him five years ago.

We still have (amoung others) a Husky, named Curly(after the Stooge), we found in a parking lot when he was a puppy, three years ago.

Stacey, Sheba would have loved the way you Treat animals! With love and compassion.

Rev.Chuck, Thank you, Sheba would have taken the time to bring her favorite ball to you. Just so you could throw it to her and watch her fetch it back. She just loved that game.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Dog really is a man's best friend. As someone said earlier in the thread, you have memories to cherish for a lifetime. Hold onto them.

Geeze, I feel for you. I have had a lot of dogs and cats (various other pets) and losing any one of them is hard. What losses are the hardest are the ones you have a special arrangement or attachment too.

And as for saving animals, we currently have a half-blind rooster dwelling in our back yard. I rescued him when the mama hen hatched him out in a very cold February and he had crawled out from under her; she was still so broody that she didn't try to call him back under her. He was barely peeping as I had to rush him in (from under the woodpile where he was hatched), wash him in warm water, blow dry him (the down fluffs up sooooo nicely!) then wrap him in a towel and place him in a pre-heated, towel lined cast-iron frying pan. He was so bundled up that you could only see 2 beady eyes and his beak. I thought for sure he was a goner. But he survived and lives in our yard, separate from the other chickens, because the other rooster and the geese keep beating the crap out of him (that's is how he got so blinded). He has a couple of hens that like to visit him and I know I will be upset when he dies.

Treasure the moments you had with Sheba; they are worth every bit and much more than any pain you may have now. And thanks for doing the good thing and trying to rescue all those pups. For sure, there mus be a special place in hell reserved for those who abandon any animal willingly like that.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. I know the pain you are suffering. But, rest assured, all dogs do go to Heaven and Sheba was welcomed by Tuffy, my dear little dog that passed over the bridge eight years ago. We still mourn her passing. God Bless.

I'm so sorry! I know what you are going through. I've recently had to put my dog of 14 years down due to cancer. It's hard. You are a wonderful person for taking the time to stop and pick up those dogs and you saved Sheba's life. It sounds to me like you were both lucky to have each other.
Take care,
Yvonne

Jeepbikerun, I just had to get out. I went hiking for day an half and riding for at least 3 hours today! It's hard to come home to an empty house.

Thanks everybody!!!
