Hello.
I plan on doing a 30-min LTHR test (Friel) tommorow morning. I own a 10-sp road bike, but also own a 42/15 geared fixed gear bike with a time-trial bar setup.
The course I will be riding on is almost completely flat, unidirectional and without stop signs as it will be on the side of the coastal 101 in Northern Californiaa (Humboldt Co.).
I would like to perform the test on my fixed gear because I feel like I could maintain a very good focus throughout the course without many variables.
Is this a good idea? I would like to here your opinions.
Ask me for more info about my fitness background/experience/equipment if needed to construct your answer.

42/15 at 100rpm puts you at ~35km/h. Does that sound like a reasonable speed for you to be TTing at?
I would use the geared bike.

I would use the geared bike.That sounds like a decent speed. Do you think it's too slow? If he can't maintain 35 he can just lower his cadence a little. If it's too easy he can sit up and ride on the tops to increase wind resistance.

I'm not very good, yet for a short TT I would be hitting 40+km/h. Furthermore, optimal TT cadence is <100rpm.

OK good points made about using the road bike out on the open road.
But I also realized that I can perform this test on either bike on an indoor trainer. Does anyone have any opinions regarding a LTHR test on a trainer?

EDIT:
Just finished the test on the trainer. Obtained avg over the last 20 min of 187 bpm. I understand the test is highly variable so I will re-test in 3-4 weeks during my first rest week of base training. I did have a cup of green tea in me (approx 3 hours earlier) but im always caffeinated when I ride so I feel like this is an accurate number.
