What was up with this guy? (http://www.saljournal.com/content/2-0-/module/displaystory/story_id/1483/format/html/displaystory.html) This is a pretty small town and I hope I never run into him, or should i say i hope he never runs into me.

The print version of the paper said the guy ran over her bike and drug it for a couple blocks. He then proceeded to run stop lights until a witness chased him down and blocked him with his truck.

Maybe the fumes from the hairpiece adhesive got to him? :D

The windshield was probably already like that from the last cyclist he hit and he couldn't see where he was going.
Hopefully this will be his last drive in a car !

I'll bet the moron says he didn't notice. I have heard too many stories where a driver will say he didn't even know they hit something.

This clown evidently saw neither cyclist nor stop sign. I concur with hillyman -- we need to get incompetent motorists such as this clown off the road. Inattentive, inebriated, and/or incompetent motorists are by far my greatest concern when using the road in any mode.

Well here in oz recently someone was killed by being hit by a bus. The driver had not closed one of his luggage hold doors and decapitated her. Didn't even notice

That's crazy! You can't exactly say "I didn't notice" as the windshield is shattered. What the hell is wrong with some people?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Too bad a jury might actually buy this lie...

The guy that hit me Thursday before last said he didn't see me either! Drove past me and turned right into me. That dang flourscent green and pink jacket just was not enough!

This moron should not be on the roads!

Yep, thanks. I am fine. Was sore for a day or two. I'll be picking my bike up on Monday.

Actually, what happened in that incident was that the hold door was closed, but evidently some clown who works in the bus company's maintenance crew didn't do their job, and the thing came open of it's own volition. I'm still trying to figure out just how they didn't get sued over that one. Had it happened on the Story Bridge in peak-hour...

As far as the guy in this story goes -- he needs to be on the receiving end of some third-world fascist police state treatment pronto.

"This is a pretty small town".

Actually, I think the only cities in Ks, that are bigger then Salina, are KC, the capitol city of Topeka, and Wichita.

Peabody, Moundridge, Hesston, Halstead, etc. are "pretty small towns".

It's all relative. Whenever I go to a BIG city they view my city as small. 45-50,000 is pretty small to many. Either way, today's paper said he got out on $500 bail last night. I'll be keeping an eye on my helmet mirror, i'll tell you that.

From the look on his face, I'm guessing the idiot is complaining about the cyclist breaking his windshield.

I used to live in Charlotte, MI. I think the population was about 10,000 and we had oh fewer then 10 traffic lights total. We were regarded as a "big city" by some of the people who lived in the nearby hamlets though.

The bus company is at fault for a defective bus. There should be switches on all the doors that disable the bus if any door is open.

Perhaps we need to add a question at the Department of Motor Vehicles:

"Are you a brainless moron?"

And if they answer yes, or ask for a definition: they are asked to step aside, hand over keys, and given a bus tickette to stupidville.

Glad you are ok! I hope the driver agreed to pay for fixing your bicycle!?!?

What is incredibly terrifing about riding here in Bowling Green, ohio is that for one, nobody rides a bike. For two, the drivers are crazy college students who still have to be cool and drive like Mario Andretti. This is a truly scary thing to contend with, and i have been almost hit quite a few times. On St. Patties day, while a lot of people were in the bars, i was cycling through the town, and there was a significant number of drunk drivers. Very nerve racking.

Thanks for the update. That makes me even more angry to hear she was carried on his hood through most of the intersection! If the dumbass couldn't see that, he shouldn't be behind the wheel at all!

Seeing it is only part of the equation. Actually caring is the next step. I'm not totally convinced this guy did.

As I said before, Third-world fascist police state treatment is required!

Heh, that was in Salina...I think I heard about it in our paper here over the weekend. It's been my observation that the majority of the drivers in the midwest:

- aren't aware of bicycle's rights and the traffic law concerning bicycles
- simply don't care. They see people on bikes (as well as mass transit users and pedestrians) as "underclass" and therefore someone not to care about
- drive erratically regardless of bikes or no bikes
- think that bicyclists are a nuisance and try to "teach them a lesson" for blocking traffic and "using their street"
- don't see bicycles as viable means of transportation

Unfortunately, it would take a public education and government commitment of epic proportions to overcome these problems that are dangers to cyclists and that ain't going to happen any time soon, at least not here. I just try to be the best example I can be and hope I change some folk's minds in the process.

I hope that woman is alright.

Actually, it would just take a bit of law enforcement. This is what so many people (particularly those in government) fail to understand. Drivers don't have to enjoy complying with the law -- they just have to do it!
