View Full Version : Bionx throttle only?

Since I'm struggling with the knees, and my round trip is 21 miles, and I originally got Bionx so I could throttle to work, I am wondering.

Can I go 10.5 miles with throttle alone while hauling books, lunch, and maybe clothes (maybe not if I can throttle all the way)?

I'm thinking that it would fit into what I first desired--no sweat in the morning and a good ride back. I can charge the bike at work, so I can still get assistance on the way home.

I have never done this, as it's so addictive to get all the speed while pedaling with the power. Maybe if I relaxed a little in the mornings, the ride home would be what I want it to be?-- A nice, de-stessing ride.

Anyone with Bionx experience? What's the max distance you can travel with throttle alone? It's a PL-250.

Hey there Kermit. I would think with your TV show and all the movies you would be able to afford a chauffer. If you want to use your BionX, who am I to say anything.

I have a PL-350 system on a mountain bike with slicks. I have done throttle only commutes to work on Monday mornings after a weekend of long hard riding and my legs are toast. It is only a 10km commute. The ride to work uses 3 bars on the indicator the ride home uses 4 sometimes 5 pure throttle. Obviously it's more uphill on the way home. The windy days change all that of course, but at 7:30 on my ride to work it's rarely windy the way home is a different story. I weight 165lbs and my bike is just under 40lbs, 1.5 inch slicks with 80-90psi.

From my experience I think it would be tight for you. If time and weather permits, maybe I will do a pure throttle range test. Is your ride hilly or flat? Give me some details and I will find a route to try and simulate.

Yous in cycling, electric or otherwise,

First of all, at the Kermit comment.

Second, my route is mostly flat. There is occasional wind of 5-15 mph, sometimes in my favor and sometimes not. My weight situation is similar to yours, when considering my weight, the bike's weight, and the weight of stuff I'm carrying.

It does seem like it would be tight, based on times when I've pedaled with throttle for some distance.

i can't wait to get my BionX... it's still in back order.
I'm getting the new 350 PL units created on the new plant.

I can certainly use some assist for those freezing mornings, when it's cold my leg (tight area) can't push hard, until it warms up.

and the worse is, when it's cold + head wind against you.

No problems on my way home, unless there's strong head wind
