Private road being used by many blocked off, neighborhood rage comes out. (http://www.ktla.com/pages/video/?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=3066012)
Looks like all it needs is some landscaping and a staircase if you ask me.
That blonde girl must sleep with her car. "I had to drive over the top of the mountain to get my kids to school. INCREDIBLY dangerous, but it was the only way!" Some even felt like they were held hostage:rolleyes:.

Love the carmax commercial before the video airs.
I would love to see what block parties are like there.

It goes to show you that if you have a section of property the public are using for free, you better put a fence fast because after 20 years or more, it become public property.

You don't live on that road, do you?
I say it's a story of a guy being quite un-neighborly.
This shouldn't even be on BF, never mind the LCF forum, unless you like trying to feel superior over strangers.
Yeah, I can sympathize with those residents. Lots of neighborhoods like that around here, it wouldn't be pleasant to spend bank on a house then not be able to drive to it with your expensive vehicle.
Not my choice to spend that money on a house or vehicle, but that's beside the point. The city should step in and buy the land in question from the proper owner, though.

I don't understand why he would up the fence now...and not before
Do y'all understand that it is an easment? Sure, that guy owns it, but he has to let other people use it. I used to live on a road like that. 20 houses on it and everyone owned 1/20th of the road. It wouldn't be legal for my neighbor and I to put up a gate just because we owned 1/10th of the road.

I concur. If it wasn't an easment, you couldn't ride your bike on it, either.

You might have a legal easement for crossing someone's property, but it doesn't necessarily mean you get a road to drive on. If you're lucky enough to get a road, you might be required to lock gates behind you whenever you cross.
There's a game that big rural property owners sometimes play with so-called landlocked parcels, which are pieces of land without road access that are totally surrounded by other properties. The surrounding landowner makes access as difficult as possible, hoping to eventually buy the landlocked parcel cheap or claim it through adverse possession. The landlocked owner, on the other hand, tries to get the county or the state to run a new road that will unlock his land, preferably right through the surrounding landowner's favorite hunting or fishing spot.
