I guess I can blame it on Tom. When he started talking about his Triathlon several months ago, I decided that I could do something like that. I decided to start with an entry level Duathlon that we have here in Huntsville called the Heel and Crank. I had been training for a couple of months when I had my gallbladder problems a couple of months ago. I lost a month of training, but managed to recover in time to get back up to speed.

The race is tomorrow and I am excited, but nervous. The race is a 3 mile run, a 10 mile ride, and a 2 mile run. I will be walking about half of the run and running the rest. I know that I can finish the distance, because I have done it three times now, and that was pretty much my only goal for this one. It would be an added bonus to not be last, but just finishing will be satisfactory.

I will let you know how it turns out.

Have fun with this.

I am working on some events for our YMCA. One is called a splash and dash, then I will be trying to create a few duathlons and one sprint triathlon. If I could find a sponsor for the bikes for a day, I would try and organize a frozen (indoor) triathlon also.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. What a wonderful morning. The weather was clear and cold. It was about 38 degrees at start time. We had 106 people in the race. My previous best at this distance was 1 hour and 41 minutes. I finished today in 1 hour and 36 minutes. They had to shorten the ride by .6 miles due to construction which accounts for a couple of minutes of that, but I am very pleased with the result. I finished 68 out of 71 men. Both of my runs were 70th out of 71. My bike time however was a little more respectable 58th out of 71.

I am already making plans for my next race in March.:D
