Introductions - Freddy von Freddenstein from Columbus, OH

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hola all,
I'm a student at OSU here in Columbus, OH (though I'm a little ashamed to admit the affiliation tonight )
I've been riding as a commuter and somewhat recreationally for the past few years on the heaviest Schwinn Varsity known to man. That got stolen a month or so ago, so I've been doing my research. Ordered an IRO Mark V a few weeks ago, and it arrived in pieces this tuesday! Took me over 10 hours to assemble and nitpick over since all the mechanics are new to me... but I did it, and damn is she sexy! I might try for commuting this winter which is partially why I went fixie.
Now that I've been researching, I'm starting to oggle other peoples bikes... is this the beginning of the end for me!?
Anyways, good meeting you all! Thanks for the excellent resource!
Hey, at least you have an airport.
Welcome to the forums.
*ahem* Go Gators! :)
And yes, it is the beginning of the end - bikes and biking will dominate your life forever.
Going from a Varsity to a IRO MkV??? Holy cow, that is quite a jump.
I have had a MkV for about a year. Nice, solid-riding bike. And you have to like the tear-drop tubing. Very cool.
And, yes, it is the beginning of the end for you. I hope you have lots of space in your garage.

Welcome Varsity alumni. Welcome to the end of the world! Yes, we are doomed and we are all grinning!

For better or worse, its hard to find a cyclist in America who is not a Varsity alum. Its a wonder we stuck with it.

Yeah, that's right.. just kick me when I'm down why don't you!? :p

It's indescribable how big the difference is for me... I've never even ridden with toe clips before! I'm still a little paranoid of the thing, but it already feels like an extension of my body which I never would have expected after the Varisty. I am already really starting to like the fixed gear, I feel way more in control.
I was thinking of going for a Specialized Allez, but I'm not made of money. While the initial prices were pretty close, I figured the maintenance of the Allez would be alot higher and i just need something that is solid and gets me there. I can't get my drivers license, so I reasoned that my main for of transport should be pretty reliable. Plus, you know... Sheldon Brown said I should go fixie ;)

This is a family friendly site, so you won't see too much of scantily clad humans (except those in lycra), but you will see a lot of bike porn :D .
