General Cycling Discussion - Do you participate in other fourms?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I used to be a regular in the Miata forum, but I'm ridding myself of the Miata in a few months, so I can't see a reason to stay there.
Other than that, I'll stick with USENET:
alt.atheism
comp.unix.admin
comp.unix.solaris
comp.unix.advocacy
comp.os.linux.advocacy
And I lurk occasionally in the Scary Devil Monastery, but made the mistake of flaming a regular...this is a *big no-no*. So I'm just watching until I garner up the brains to make a better post next time.

I belong to a couple of whitewater kayaking forums and also peruse the newsgroups in cycling and kayaking, climbing, skiing etc....
oldroads.com / vintage lightweights
oldroads.com / old school mountain bikes
Schwinn.com / collectors' forum
sheldonbrown.com / bicycle science
VAG-com (OBDII diagnostics for VW-Audi)
VW Vortex / Passat
SD-urban (urban planning, transportation choice advocacy)
San Diego County Bicycle Coalition
I have coffee with John E at oldroads.com and at www.schwinn.com/heritage/collectorsforum, as well as one or two other vintage bike collecting sites.
I also pay a visit at Big Audio Dynamite's site to talk about a great band that has been dead for seven years. It's more fun than it sounds. www.bad.co.uk/discussions.

The only other one I participate in is the Tractor forums. I have a small farm and have a Ford 3000 tractor which I did a lot of work on when I first bought it.

Perhaps Ron has summed up this question rather neatly.
Let me explain this as simply as possible: there are no other forums. We are the only ones in cyberspace. Anyone who believes in other forums is deluded and sick.

Cyclingforums is a great place even if traffic is very low. Whenever something is being talked about, most of the posts are a great, informative read.

The bikeqld mailing list - Bicycle Queensland is the local advocacy club of which I am a member.
The philosophybike@topica.com mailing list which I created and 'administer' (and which is VERY quiet)
Occasionally dip into usenet, but I used to be very active there - aus.bicycle, rec.bicycles.misc, alt.rec.bicycles.recumbent
and The Jedi Council forum at theforce.net. (infrequent poster under the psuedonym Yada-Yada)
I need to get out more.
Bike Forums (shouldn't that be 'Fora'?) is my favourite.
I used to participate in the Journals (=diary/journal writing) forum at about.com; became inactive for a while, went back and it had mysteriously COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED! It was very active, too.
So I wrote to about.com and got no response. Wrote again, pointing out that it was my second attempt to find out what happened, and finally got the answer that they had removed that topic from their live service, might restore it some day. Hmm.
You got to watch those diary writers. A pretty threatening bunch.
BTW, if anybody here knows what happened to that forum, I'd be grateful to learn. Email me! I know at least one other Bike Forums person did occasionally drop in to the Journals forum.
I wish I'd saved the email addresses of all the members I used to enjoy interchanges with. Now I have no way to contact any of them, and they're probably feeling the same way.
Other than that one, now gone, it's just Bike Forums at present. I have dipped into others though, enough to know that this one is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of ease of use! At least the ones I've been to.
And of course has the nicest members, even if their cleats do tend to scratch up wooden floors. :)

I regularly lurk on other cycling forums, but none of them have the appeal of bikeforums so I haven't joined any others, I still occasionally write reviews on epinions but thats about it.

Yeah - but I'm loyal to these three:
1.bf.net
2. www.ridemonkey.com
3. www.ironmagazine.com
Used to on a motorbike forum, but it degenerated to the stage where a few members took it upon themselves to slag off any opinion not in accord with their own so gave up on that.
Occasionally use www.jeepin.com
I am here and at ridemonkey.com most of the time. I got to bikemag.com some times, and occaisonally www.nsmb.com(freeriding website).

Dare I mention that I used to own a '77 Jeep Waggoner? Lifted with 44" super swampers  ... I sold it after 6 months, I couldn't afford a 9mpg vehicle.
I enjoy hanging out at oldroads as I find that somehow I've gotten old enough to relate to "vintage" bicycles. No idea how that happened.:D RoadbikeReview often has some interesting threads and I'm an occasional poster. This and Oldroads are my faves.
I first got into this Bulletin Board stuff on the politics boards first at Excite and later Lycos. Lycos changed its format about the time I decided I had outgrown the foolishness you find at sites like that. I posted under a handle but if any of the Lycos posters should ever wander this way my appreciation of Joseph Heller should give me away.

Basically just this one now. I used to hang around at the old bicycleforum site, but that has gone, as has the message board at Stop the World. Occasionally, myself and a couple of friends at university used to hit the f*ckedcompany.com board (the URL contains the letter, not the '*'), which was good when we wanted to stop using our brains under an alias or two.
That's pretty much it.

Oh, that was you! Such profanity Chris! Seriously though, do you remember a few months back when 'Pud' got subpoenaed for the identity of some anonymous posters by some dot-bomb CEO with a fragile ego? That was hilarious!!! I won't even ask if you were one of those posters!

Those guys crack me up. The semi-regular aus.cars/aus.bicycle critical mass flame wars are hilarious. It's about the only thing that stops aus.bicycle being completely dull. That said, from the brief time is read aus.cars it seems that most of them despise bad drivers as much as cyclists do.

They are as entertaining as it gets, I think its because the extremes on each side of the 'argument' go off their face at each other hehe

I use "Fatal Justice" and "Steel Fury" as well as a couple of other regs when I troll FC. No, I wasn't "one of those posters". I have to admit, I didn't expect to find another FCer here. The most hilarious thing I've ever seen was when two of my friends were flaming each other on that site and didn't realise at the time... :D

Well these days it's just the good ole' BF.n .. , I am registered @ ridemonkey and bicycling etc ,, but It's like I feel always like a newbie at those forums and the ridemonkey is full of stoners and they always seem to be arguing over religion, and talking a bunch of little kid crap !. I will stay here as I (hope) am part of the family here . I once found a forum called "pick a fight" , this was fun ? , you could go in there and instead of using outright foul language and putdowns, I could get totally into "pythonesque" sarcasm and wit , which would in turn leave the knuckledraggers reeling in frustration and a needing for extra cuss words ..."so is this the room for an argument ?" ... "look I already told you !" "no you did'nt ".. "YES I did!" :D

I have enough trouble keeping up with Bike Forums, let alone anything else, but occasionally I'll check out Bicycling.com, epinions, and roadbikereveiw(sp?). Of course the Manitoba Cycling Assoc. has a site that I check out the classifieds at.
