With a cold front bringing snow flurries tonight, I dashed out the door to get a ride in before the weather arrived.

I was fortunate to have a clear sky and temps in the fifties.

But the wind added a dimension today. A steady breeze of 20 mph and gusts up to 30, I grabbed the drops and kept my cadence up. 34 miles in 110 minutes, not bad!

How was your ride today?

Not Bad is an understatement!. One of my riding buddies calls that kind of wind "Florida Hills" when we get it down here.

Heck, you should be west of the city - it's gusting to 47 out here, with a steady 25-30.

My ride out west of here was really nasty, but really quick coming home.......

I was riding diagonal to the wind for most of the ride. On one easterly section, I think I hit 40 mph!

Just came in from fighting the wind here in Kansas. The upwind leg was brutal, the downwind leg a breeze!

Nasty wind here today as well. I got blown sideways by a wind gust and had to hop the curb up onto the grass once, in a particularly hard cross gust.

Same big wind down here in Omaha. Been that way for about 2 weeks now. Yuck! We have developed a nice loop off of our MUP that goes through a park that has some trees and other wind breaks, so on a real gusty day like today we can do multiple loops and don't ride direct into the wind for too long... maybe no more than 2-3 miles at a time. We were grinding to get 10-11 mph on the upwind legs today but could easily have gone 20+ downwind, though we stayed around 17ish to enjoy it longer.

The midwest is getting a serious workout with wind today. Be safe, people.

I wish you had kept your wind out in the midwest. I've finally got my interest in cycling back, and now the wind is keeping me inside. :(

I first moved to Corpus Christi in '93, and I arrived with my bike the day before a 66 mile ride around the bay. I knew I was in trouble when I saw bumper stickers saying "pray for wind." The wind surfers and kite boarders usually get their prayers answered. :(

The wind wasn't as bad as I expected today, thankfully. It was windy but not big heavy gusts. Going downhill in the cold is surely a way to wake up though.

On Sunday I saw a guy pulling a trailer, in 20 to 30 mph winds! I think his kids were in there!

Seems like your midwest wind caught up to me yesterday. Coming home last night around 11 it was gusting over 30 mph. Crossing the river was particularly nasty, it's about half of a mile on the bridge and there's nothing to stop the wind. I had to drop a gear, and a big gust nearly stopped me dead in my tracks.

I've got a short commute, so I don't mind it so much, but it's pretty disheartening to be struggling to go downhill!
