Most likely a lot of people on here like the new tandems but my wife and I like the old Schwinn tandems. I just wanted to share some pictures of the 4 we have. I hope to find a green, coppertone, violet and black sometime to go with the collection!
I hope a few like seeing the pictures.

Are the four all-original in pristine condition or have they been restored?
A wonderful collection, to be sure.

TandemGeek -They all four are original and never repainted. They have a few little scuffs on the paint and 1 has a little pitting on the chrome but otherwise they are really in very nice shape.
Thanks for the compliment about them.
Very nice! You can set up tandem group rides with just friends and family! http://www.esportbike.com/forums/images/smilies/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice looking collection Labrador. In June we were visiting our nearest bike shop and spotted a Deluxe Twinn that an employee at the shop had just bought. As we were checking out the frame design, we realized that it would be very easy to put one of our grandchildren in the stoker position. We started to look around and found this nice 1969 Twinn (single speed).

After a basic cleaning, my wife and I took it out on the local rail-trail. We had a blast, but found that this 60 pound bike had it's limitations with one speed. That led to a search for a Deluxe Twinn (5 speed). This one also needed to be in great condition. We purchased this 1979 Deluxe Twinn in September. This one weighs 63 pounds.

Last weekend we put my 10 year old grandson on the back, and his 4 year old sister in a trailer behind us. Great fun was had by all. In a couple more years the 7 year old will be on the back of the 69, with my wife in her first captain position.

Wow, really nice vintage bikes folks!
I wish I would have kept my Schwinn Continental from 1972.. I lived on that bike. Can't even remember what I did with it.

Team - Glad to hear you and the grand kids are enjoying the older Schwinn tandems! Hopefully they will enjoy the tandems as much as we have. Thanks for letting a comment on the pictures on Flickr!
geranimo - I have a yellow mens and ladies Continential - both are in great shape. It is ashame that you did get rid of it. I will try to get another set on Flickr of these bikes maybe this weekend!

Nice! My wife brought home a 63 Schwinn Bicycle Built for Two tandem for my bday last November. It was a rusted, spray can painted mess. I spent the entire winter restoring it. It's a blast to ride!

Very nice indeed.
I recently came into posession of one of these. I put a thread on the C&V forum about it.

My wife and I took it out for the first ride on Sunday. Never been aboard a tandem before, but we took right to it. This thing is a blast.

swc - thanks for the link, I will keep an eye on the auction!
pathdoc - Hope you win the tandem! The campus green ones are very nice looking!
Dan - I did see your post about the tandem and it really looks great - Good job making it look nice.
Joe - Good to hear you liked the ride on the older tandem. I don't have any that old but always looking.
I have found out the 5 speed may not be the greatest on hills but we still have fun. Thanks again for everyone looking at the pictures. I just can't believe how many views the tandems got. I really thought there would not be that much intrest in them.
I thought since they where looked at so much that maybe people would like to see some other pictures, so here is another link to a slideshow of pictures on Flickr. I hope you enjoy them. They are mostly of the animals on our farm and in our fields. http://www.flickr.com/photos/20832301@N03/sets/72157607969634019/show/
Also here is the link to all of sets on Flickr if you would be interested in looking at them. There are many old bicycle newspaper articles and some of the older bikes I have had or still have. http://www.flickr.com/photos/20832301@N03/sets/

The photo's are just beautiful....a few of the things in life that I love even more than cycling are animals and nature. Looks like you've got them covered pretty well! Thanks for sharing.

How much are these tandems generally worth? Please take into consideration the one on Ebay is in top notch condition.
Thanks

Generally, these go for somewhere between $200 and $400. As with most things, accessories and condition will determine price. The cost to restore those in fair shape usually exceeds the cost of one in great condition. I've noticed that many people feel they are sitting on a "gold mine" because they have a vintage Schwinn. I test rode two that were in fair shape with an asking price at or near $400. I didn't even bother to make a counter offer and chose to wait for the right deal. We only started looking in July, and already have what we wanted. We got both of ours off Craig's List. Ebay was usually too high, and shipping was either not availible, or around $150.
