Foo - going to spain :)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am leaving for Spain on Nov. 21st and I was wondering if any of you know any good places to go. I am going to be living in Pamplona for a month so I have some time.....I wish I was already there:D
I'm jealous. Only a month? Why so short?

Lived in Madrid for two years. I just love Bilbao. The whole northern coast, really. Galicia is absolutely beautiful. Are you planning to visit Santiago de Compostela? It's a big ol' cathedral, if that grills your cheese. But Barcelona is jumpin'...nice place to visit. So that's what I recommend.
Flippin beat me to Galicia... It's very different from what you might expect of Spain -- lots of Celtic influence: Bagpipes!
I also visited my sister in Granada when she was living there. It's definitely worth a trip -- the Alhambra really is fantastic, and the excessively enthusiastic audio guides are hilarious. I was there before the tourist season really began, which was a blessing. I imagine it's a madhouse in the summer. Ronda is also on the Andalusian tourist path, but worth a visit -- the setting is spectacular.
My sister spent a while in Barcelona and loved it, but I never had a chance to go myself.
I am going to be mostly going through pamplona because my sister lives there and i will get free food and a place to stay. we will be taking trips during the weekend but she has med school so i will be sticking around home base. i was going to try to live there for 3 months but it took a bit longer to raise the money than i hoped, plus I need to get back in time for school....I got to get a job to pay for all my hobbies somehow:lol: I would try moving there for a while but I barely know any spanish.
First things first, you're not going to Spain, you're going to the Basque Country.

Pamplona/Iruņa is a nice, albeit small city. I've been there several times, but always during San Fermin. I was taken everywhere by my ex, who was from there, so I can't give much advice I'm afraid. If you're actually into biking, you can go to the burbs to see the Miguel Indurain monument. You might even get lucky and see the man himself in a taverna, which is how I obtained his autograph.
Bilbao is obviously a well worth a visit, with the Guggenhiem and Museo de Bellas Artes. The shopping in the casco viejo is great, if that's what floats your boat. It's also a great place to find a bar, and have a glass of crianza or a zurito with a pintxo, or two.
From Bilbao you can make a short hop to Guernica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guernica_(town)), to see the Gernikako Arbola, if that floats your boat.
Speaking of pintxos, make sure to have pintxo txistorra. Your best bet is to find that in Iruņa, or San Sebastian/Donastia. It's the culinary capital of the Basque Country, which really says something, because the food there is AMAZING.
I can't make any suggestions about Victoria/Gasteiz, I was only there for 30 minutes, sitting on a bus, on my way to Noja, on the coast of Santander.
Agur ben hur.

Good point.
pintxos and an excellent kalimotxo = heaven
I have been to the coast over near Barcelona. Gorgeous beaches/water.
I would also head up into the Pyrenees. Beautiful mountains.

I lived there (Spain) for three years and really did love it there. The Alhambra is one of the best memories as mentioned above. I never got to Basque country but would have loved it I'm sure. I hope you like it and have a good stay.
Ah, fond memories......

Let me see iff I can come up with some suggestions.... To start with... San Sebastian.... Fabulous city!!! great food!!! Americans are liked but not that popular these past few years for obvious foreign policy decisions on part of Bush Administration... if politics come up... Obama is the man!!!
If you are taking your bike i just read a cute book:
Is not about the tapas by Polly Evans... she starts a cycling tour in the basque country...
the north is full of great mountains...is an outdoor paradise... is also full of great roman and pre romanic history... quite interesting..if going all the way to galicia(which is beautiful) you must stop by the best kept secret..Asturias... im from there and i cud recommend you thousand of great places...
let me know if you need more help...
Valencia is my favorite city. Excellent citrus, seafood, and the most beautiful women in the world, IMHO.
