Northern California - Good trails for CX practice in the Bay Area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm looking for something near Fremont/Union City.. but also near my work in San Jose on Stevens Creek Blvd.
I know of Coyote Hills.. but I've been going there all my life pretty much. Any others?
You may want to PM "blastradius" (Henry) as he's the big CX'er that I know of. He may know of some trails you can ride on.

Depending on where along Stevens Creek, you may find Fremont Older Open Space (http://www.openspace.org/preserves/pr_fremont.asp) preserve to be handy. I go out there all the time (from near Winchester/San Tomas intersection). The ride out is a good warm up, there are tons of trails, loops, etc. The big downside is that it can be very crowded with casual hikers and cyclists on weekends, and like most places, during the rainy season they close several of the trails to bikes. But during the week it's generally empty.

I've never been as far south as you with my CX bike but along the west side of Canada Road there's a trail that is really great for getting in some dirt riding. Be careful, there's many hikers and horses on weekends but on weekdays there is much less traffic, if any.
Arastradero Open Space Preserve is good terrain for some dirt riding and seems to get many CX'ers doing loops. Russian Ridge is pretty CXable terrain too.
I'd imagine most of the Open Space Preserves have pretty good CX'able terrain so long as you stay clear of the sections that are best for full on MTBs or you can practice portaging on those sections.

Somebody uses Laurel Creek Park in San Mateo for that. They even use barriers, which the take off the trails but leave nearby.

Sounds interesting. Is it called Laurelwood Park?
