I am starting off on the Southern Tier November 8th, from Marfa, TX, connecting to the route in Marathon. I am towing an aluminum trailer/sleeping unit and plan to camp or stay with friends in each location where I spend the night.
I'm curious, if anyone on this forum is currently on the route, or planning to be around the time that I will. Also, I'd appreciate advice from others who have have traveled the Southern Tier in the past (about road conditions, the availability of safe places to camp, particularly in West Texas-the stretch from Marathon to Del Rio seems rather desolate).
With Thanks,
Liz

Strange place to st start out a trip and a time of year - we got stuck for hours in the Marfa Lights rest stop in early April last year with the wind blowing on toAlpine. Yep lots of desolute and lonely places along Texas, we always made sure we a days wotrh of water and several days of food with us. Some of the RV places along the way might be shut up for the season as well as some of the camping spots so call ahead if they are part of your internary.
