i think masi's old steel bikes are just the bee's knees. they're so classy and smooth and comfy. love em. don't know anything about the bike you linked to or any of their other new stuff, sorry.

Masi is an old framesmith's name that been around for several decades. The name is now owned by Haro. Test ride one and make your choice then.

Dan,
I don't want to act a smart aleck, but where do you get that information, I have visited their web site and theirs no mention that they are now own by Haro.

Nothing too concrete, just telltale signs that Haro does indeed own the Masi brand.

when I was shopping for a bike about 6 months ago I ran across the Masi's
I was allured by the reputation and the price.
I checked with a friend of mine who's boyfriend was a bike rep about it. I didn't know about the 'new' masi's either.
he said they aren't what they used to be but were a good deal for price and all.
he told me it was down to fit and feel then, it was comparable to the Giant, Felt, and other bikes in the pricerange I was looking at.
it ultimately came down to fit for me, the giant fit better but I would have scooped up the Masi had it been the right feel.
so I know that's not hard fact and riding experience but that's my experience.

It's a bit inaccurate to say that Haro owns Masi-while Masi sales are handled by Haro and their info comes in the Haro dealer pack, they're both actually part of the Kenda conglomerate.

the reason im so interested is because they only want $1500 for it. its been there all winter and it retails for 2000+. its really a GREAT value. with full ultegra and carbon seat post, stem, fork, and stem its just an incredible deal. im asking about the brand because with all of this, im just not sure if it really is a quality bike...of course the components are nice but if the bikes not any good, then its nothing.

How can the bike not be any good? It's made from the same 7000 series aluminum as almost every aluminum frame. It's not going to rust, its not going to bend or break with normal use, Its not going to refuse to start on a cold winter morning. It's not going to smoke or leak oil on your driveway.

Its a bunch of aluminum tubes welded together and painted, Its not rocket science. I think you are reading too much into it. It's got good components, its light, the price is right, buy it.

Some of the most expensive frames in the world start out as a $85.00 aluminum tubeset. Cut, Weld, paint, distribute, charge $2700 retail.

A--freakin--men!

Considering this is a generic frame with a good groupo, I would take a close look at the following two bikes. They are better values to be sure;

bike #1 (http://www.getawaybikes.com/Detail.cfm?Categoryid=33&BrandID=9&ProductID=1152&CFID=3165737&CFTOKEN=53946843)

bike #2 (http://www.getawaybikes.com/Detail.cfm?Categoryid=33&BrandID=9&ProductID=935&CFID=3165737&CFTOKEN=53946843)
