I currently have a Trek 1000 purchased last July. I am looking to step up to a Trek 2200 or 2300 or equivalent. Any suggestions? Any shoe and pedal suggestions? I ride about 150 miles per week.
The 2300 is a nice ride, my wife has one and loves it. As for shoes that is really personal, wife likes her Sidis and I like my Nikes. Pedals I would go for the Shimano Ultegra or Dura Ace, wife is about to switch from Looks to Ultegras and I switched a while back from Looks to Dura Ace.

I'll also toss in my vote for the Speedplay/Sidi combo. However, the downside is that they're not the least expensive option.

Well, I have a Softride (Solo) and a Trek 2300. The Trek is in a completely different ballgame to the Softride. There is really no comparision. The Trek is FAST - and I mean fast. It is probably faster than a Trek 5200 even. The Softride looks good (I think so) and is really comfortable. But it is not fast at all.
The Trek 2300 is probably the best thing I have ever bought in my life - in any category. I am impressed with it almost every time I go for a ride on it.

The 2100, 2200, and 2300 are all the same frame. 2200 has the Bontrager Race wheels and 105 brakes (which are the same as Ultegra in the actual brake calipers..it's the finish and the release arm that's the difference)..2300 is full Ultegra with the Race Lite wheels. For the $$, the 2200 is a great value. And no difference in the actual ride feel.
You can save a few bucks with the 2200 and get the Sidi Genius 4's...Look is the pedal of choice for me. But I don't like or use float. Speedplay seems to be the choice of folks who like lots of float. Look has up to 9 degrees of float (in the A51 and up it is adjustable) but the Zeros will give you up to 15 degrees (I couldn't ride the bike like that) of float.
