I am looking at one of these (http://www.trekbikes.com/bikes/2004/citybike/navigator50.jsp) to commute to work 5 miles each way. I currently am riding my old coaster brake schwinn heavy duti. I have an older mongoose mtb I have been setting up to tour on and started thinking that this one bike might be able to do both. I just recently started riding again after sitting on the couch for about 5 years ,and my wife want's to ride with me. I bought her a raleigh c-30 ,but the old schwinn just isnt fast enough to keep up with her. this trek is selling locally for $219. I am hoping someone with a little more experiance could give me an opinion as to wether or not this frame would hold up to shorter local touring to state parks and such. probably nothing over a 100 miles this year. my only real concern is I am a big fella and I am hard on wheels.my last bike (http://community.webshots.com/user/spanky4x4) I rode alot finally got some 48's before I stopped having wheel problems. I am not new to bikes just leary of wasting $200 that could go to a super strong set of wheels for my other bike
I am sure this would work for my short commute and weekend wife rides ,but i would like it to do more. thanks

I doubt the trek will be much faster than what you've got. You're also almost guaranteed to outgrow it if you do any consistent riding. It's hi-ten steel and likely weighs a ton.
