Introductions - How's it going everybody?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My name is Chris and I just bought a Trek 7100 to commute to work. It's 15 miles round trip. This is only the third day and already my legs feel like putty, but riding is so exhilarating! I live in Monroe, Louisiana and this town is NOT biker friendly at all. There are virtually no side walks and the idea of a bike trail is a long, long way off. Aside from the occasional hick shouting something witty from the passenger window of a dually, riding to work is one of the best decisions I've made in a while. (by the way, I don't have anything against hicks in dually trucks.)

Think of a friendly retort for the people in the trucks, because they will pass you later and you want them to think of you as a friend. Get a mirror to mount on your glasses or helmet so you are always aware of what is coming from behind - it will then be a lot less scarey.

Actually, just wave and smile. It will be more irritating to them than if you give them the finger, or anything else.
Welcome to BikeForums :D .
