Northeast - Cyclosportives or races in Northeast

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Although July is normally the month I go to the French Alps to ride in the mountains and cheer at the Tour de France, I'm doing something different next summer. My girl will be doing an internship in Boston from January until half July, and I will join her for a month. So no Alpe d'Huez, Col d'Izoard or Mont Ventoux for me next year. I already anticipated a bikeless month, because normally it's quite expensive to fly your bike over the atlantic, but it turns out I can take my bike for free! (3 cheers for british airways)

So, I will be riding around Boston for a month and will probably rent a car to drive around the northeast with my beloved bike in the boot. In Europe (i'm from Amsterdam, The Netherlands) I ride quite a lot of cyclosportives and sometimes I participate in a clubrace. I'd like to do the same during my month in the States, because I'd like to prepare for the cyclosportive of the year over here (Liege-Bastogne-Liege)

I already checked the internet, but I couldn't find any cyclosportives in the Northeast. Are there any? And how about hills? How far from Boston do I have to go to find some decent hills?

Questions, questions, questions... Hope you guys have some answers for me! Thanks!

You might be in Boston for the Harpoon Brewery B2B ride. Get on their mailing list as registration is limited.

Unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for the first half of the summer. However a lot of the Bike Forums members attend the Lancaster County Bicycle Club's Covered Bridges Metric Century in August. It is a recreational ride, and the route is mostly flat to slightly rolling hills. The LiveStrong Challenge ride for Philadelphia is held at the end of August. It is also a recreational ride (with a fund raising commitment), but the course is much, much more challenging than the one in Lancaster. There is also cyclosportif ride that is held before the Univest Grand Prix race in early September. All of these rides are held in Pennsylvania, but after July. If you would like more information on any of these, just send me a PM. I hope you enjoy your time in the US!

Thanks! Unfortunately I will arrive at July 3 and leave the 31st. So I guess i'll make my own plans and do a few nice centuries to New York etc.

check http://www.bikereg.com/ for rec rides. chances are there will be a century ride, or two going on.

they're nothing like a cyclo (smaller, way smaller), but that's the best you'll be able to do. if you want to train for the Champion ride, then get yourself to Vermont.
