Mountain Biking - I need tire advice

Can nyone suggest a reasonably good inexpensive Kevlar tire? I often ride in areas filled with thorns. Using regular MTB tires, I'd come home every other time with a flat. Now I'm using slime filled tubes and I never change a tube in the field - although sometimes I have to fill them in order to get home. Once a month or two I have to change one. I'm thinking of trying Kevlar tires but my budget is limited. I've seen Bell Kevlars for under $15. Has anyone got any long term experience with these tires? How do they ride and more important how do they hold up to thorns compared to the more expensive ones?

I've also seen Bell slime filled tubes for as little as $3. Are the more expensive tubes any better?

No. Not too thorny here. I've run really low pressures in my tubed tires and see no reason to switch yet. Still, if I end up getting a "tubeless" wheelset, then I definately will as they're a bit heavier than the standard rims and I'd want to take advantage of them.

If you do a search around here, you'll actually find much information on it and why it's better than the slime stuff you're using now. You may even want to look up "ghetto tubeless" and see if you want to make your own goo.

We have thorns. Hedge trees have huge thorns and also when I go to Oklahoma there are plenty of cactus thorns. I used
the ghetto stans set up for a while with no flats, now I have UST rims, tubeless ready tires and stans sealant. Both the
ghetto and the tubeless setup beat slime tubes by eliminating pinch flats. My girlfriend has been riding my IBOC with slime
tubes, but after the first flat it will get the ghetto stans set up. Also the ghetto stans set up saves about 1 pound over slime
tubes.
