Armstrong, a seven-time Tour de France winner, registered for the 25th annual Tour de Gruene Bicycle Classic and has signed up to compete in time trials on Saturday and Sunday.

“This is one of the only times people will see him race on American soil,” said Karen Rotzler, one of the Tour de Gruene's founders. “You'd normally have to go to Italy to see him in a time trial.”

Armstrong, 37, registered online for the race on Friday. With his $30 registration fee, Armstrong also receives a T-shirt and a ticket to New Braunfels' Wurstfest.

Saturday's time trial is a 16-mile course along the Guadalupe River, while Sunday's time trial is a 27.3-mile, two-person team event. Armstrong's teammate is John Korioth, who helped found the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Armstrong is returning to cycling after a three-year retirement. He told the Austin American-Statesman he likely will be in the 2009 Tour de France.

“I'm definitely coming back to racing, and I recognize the Tour is the marquee event,” Armstrong said to the Austin American-Statesman. “Chances are more likely than not that I'll (ride in the Tour de France).”

Armstrong previously raced in the Tour de Gruene in 1996, three weeks after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. His teammate in 1996
