Pacific Northwest - Lake Washington Trail Repair

I was riding on my way to work this morning when I saw the big construction sign announcing that the portion of the LW trail south of Coal Creek would be closed on the 30th for repaving. While I highly applaud this action (it's by far the roughest section of the trail I ride over), I haven't been able to find any information on this on-line or anywhere else. Does anyone know:

Is this a 1-day closure, or will it be more than that?
What time will they get started (i.e. if I'm hitting it at between 7:00 and 7:30, will I be safe)?
What time are they planning to finish (i.e. if I'm hitting it at between 6:00 and 6:30 will I be safe)?
It suggests an alternate route. Is there one???


Any information anyone might have would be appreciated.

Thinking about where they need to do the work, probably rerouting (thinking from North to South) up that overpass that leads across to newport hills and the park and ride, then along the road to the gas station, dropping down to the denny's and back onto the trail at that overpass. that drops you back on the road portion by the new practice stadium.

if not that route, i can't think of any other viable, nearly direct route.

I rode the trail from Bellevue to Renton this past Saturday. I couldn't really tell what the repairs entailed because the sections of the trail where the pavement uplift was the worst were completely covered by wet leaves! Very slippery and very dangerous conditions. But i did not feel the usual bumps in the pavement so they must have done something. The trail was open and there was no sign of repair crews.

Ah nothing like feeling your bike sliding sideways and your rear wheel skipping in the climbs.

The leaves are treacherous at the moment! I'm waiting for a good freeze to make them even more tricky :eek: .

Well, given that I'm now riding that section twice a day, I guess I'm qualified to say something.

The only part I feel is dangerous right now is the entrance to the trail down by the new Seahawks training facility. There, you must make a 90 degree turn with ditches on each side of the trail entrance. If you misjudge the turn, you end up on the ground. Not that it's happened to me (twice) or anything like that :troll:

The new paving on the trail is pretty nice. They didn't do the whole thing, like I'd have preferred, but they got the worst parts. I can now ride faster than I can walk and I haven't had my water bottle bounce out of the cage since they reopened the thing :)

Personally, I would really like it if the areas that have roots under the asphalt lifting it up would be repaired along Lake Forest Park and Kenmore. Those areas are a drag when its dark out.
