This morning a bunch of locals met up at a nearby mtb stomping ground. It was a DH ride, and most of these guys are pushers when it comes to going up - so I took off (figured I'd get a run in while they pushed) and pedaled up. One guy - and his dog - came with. We get to the top of the "Zipper" and take off. The run goes smooth untill the very last part. There is two small drops in a row on a very steep trail. The first is about 1.5' - the next about 4' and they are about 8 feet apart. I usualy just lean back drop the first and manual between the two and drop the next. However the guys dog decides to pass me right as I unweight my front wheel. I nail him in the side as he knocks me off line - I lean forward trying to gain control, but end up pinching the dog between my front wheel and the ground - the dog yelps and jumps causing my wheel to go 90 degrees and hit the dirt just past the lip of the first drop and forcing me airborne, away from my bike and head first over the second drop. I hit my noggin, roll, slide on my belly and then my bike decides to land chainring first on my head. Thank god for helmets.

The carnage -
Me - just fine, other than a sore neck. (good pads)
Dog - Better than me.
Gear - helmet will have to be replaced and and because of it's mutiple cracks and exposed foam it will end up on my story wall (in the bike room). Pads are cut and torn a bit but did their job.
Bike - One stantion on the JrT was badly scratched - about 8 scratches, the worst being about 1 mm deep. Since the lower crown is a press fit I will probably have to replace both sides and the lower crown.

Good to know no one (or dogs) were hurt when it happened

As for the jr Ts, what a bummer

Don't ya know the super glue trick? Look it up and your fork will work good as new, at least the scratches will not leak.

If you can't figure it out. One tube of super glue and some wet-dry sand paper in 3 different grits will solve your scratch problem.

I dont think any of it is good to know. Stupid dog and guy.....if that would have happend to me I would probably be extremely pissed and make the guy pay for it all. (Maybe thats because I am in a bad mood as I post this though)

I filled them with 2 stage epoxy and was going to sand them but the guy with the dog offered to pay some of the bill - plus he is a long time employee at a local bike shop. I'm getting 04 stantions and lower crown (which is bolt on) for about 100 out of pocket. I'll go cheap on the helmet, so that will be another 50. I'll be back in action by thurs. My litespeed was getting lonely anyway

As far as having him pay for it all - I rode with him knowing his dog was there - I'm partialy to blame. If I was riding and the dog jumps in front of me out of nowhere - I'd make him foot the bill.

I learned a lesson from this one - don't take anyone's word over common sense.
