I believe these were taken in Southern Utah by firefighters working a brush fire.

Rattlesnakes often stay in dens. I've lived in the southwest my whole life and not come across a den like this. I think it is pretty impressive.

Where does she live? I see them at least a once every month but they are all fairly small.

Then, a week later, she was in her kitchen and heard this one outside the window in a bush. (She's getting braver, no glove!)

I work in the Emergency Room. We're finding people that eat them are more sensitive to the venom and have a worse reaction to the bites.

I hate snakes! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL3ZIc5IL2w)
Could you imagine being on a mountain bike ride and doing an endo into a pit like that?

I've ridden over a snake on the trail before. It was most likely either a rattler or a bull snake but I was going too fast to tell. It was not on purpose mind you but I was heading down the trail at full speed, came around a turn and there was one stretched across the trail. With no time to brake I did the only thing I could do and that was raise my feet and hope it wouldn't bite me. Startled the hell out of me, snake too probably.

why can't people just leave nature alone, without having to kill it, eat it, or both?

Away from the grandkids and out of my daughter's yard I wouldn't kill them either. My other daughter's husband's 2 year old nephew was bitten in the abdomen on the front porch of his home. Sorry, snake has to go to snake heaven. That's the rules around here.

A farmer was driving down the road and came upon a Volkwagen bus that was stopped on the side of the road and a small group of people was standing in the middle of the road and looking at something. He stopped, got out of his truck and walked over to see what they were all staring at. There was a large rattlesnake coiled up on the highway and several men, women and small children were examining the snake.
Without saying a word, he walked back to his truck, got out his shovel and clang! The look of dismay on the small crowd's face was ignored, he got back into his truck and he drove away. Each person has their own way of seeing the world and there usually is a reason to explain their actions.

Farmers around here irrigate with tubes that siphoned the water out of the ditch. Snakes will lay next to the tubes to cool off. Try moving tubes at night and grabbing a rattlesnake along with your tube. You'd walk back to your truck too.

Agreed, and they keep rats and mice in check too. I doubt that there are too many "friendly" rattlers kept in homes. My personal rule is that if I can, I just get away from them. If they (rattlers) are in my house or yard, they go to snake heaven.
We have a King snake that we allow around the house because we've always heard that they kill rattlesnakes....

The Kingsnake derives its name from its habit of eating other snakes. It is most famous for eating rattlesnakes and copperheads and for being immune to viper venom. The Kingsnake is actually a diet generalist and will eat, small rodents, snakes, lizards, and their eggs and even turtles and it is usually active in the morning and late afternoon but in extremely hot conditions will be found abroad at night. The Kingsnake locates and identifies its prey at night by using its sense of smell. If the prey item is a rattlesnake, the Kingsnake, being a constrictor, will bite the snake and immediately throw several coils around it and constrict it until it is disabled and exhausted and it will then be eaten, whether still alive or dead.

I'm not gonna lie there was a rattler in the backyard and had an eye on my dog who was barking like crazy. That thing was gone no question about that. It was one or the other.

No killed the snake before that could happen. Yes, it could have been removed safely but it was at the angry point and it was too risky.
