I recently shipped my bike to Bilenky Cycles in PA (from the website of S&S Couplings) to have it hacked. I shipped my bicycle once last year and will be shipping it 3 times this year. Rather than pay $1500-2000 for a folding bicycle with Ultegra, I paid $450 to have my bicycle cut. (Shipping charges this year alone will pay for the cutting.) The suitcase is an additional $350, but you have to pay extra for the box with BikeFriday and other folding bikes. I have seen BikeFriday's on many tours, and I have passed them going up hill, and I am not very fast. I wanted 700 size wheels. Another factor, is that I love my Lemond, but I am sure it will not be the "top dog" in my garage in a few years. I will post pictures when it is shipped back from Texas. I had to pay FedEx because the group I was going with limited our luggage to 1 per person so we could all fit into 3 cars/vans. I rode the bicycle over 350 miles in the Fredericksburg, Texas area. A majority of the roads were "chip-n-seal". In addition there were about 5-10 cattle crossings per day. I did not have any trouble with the frame separating. I did have 3 flat tires. In my group of 14 people, we had over 35 flat tires. The pin on my Profile Aerobars did manage to come apart. (I will post an e-mail to the company, as I had just read about this on BF before the trip.) I learned about S & S Couplings from BF and wanted to thank everyone for their input.

BTW, the fastest speed downhill last week was 41mph. I also wiped out twice in the gravel. Tore my right thumbnail off, but the couplings were steadfast.

I'm surprised the process of adding S&S coupler's was only $450. I thought it was quite a bit more for existing bikes. Are you happy with the cable splitter/connectors?

Also, I believe on the S&S site there a comment about Greg Lemond getting a bike equipped with S&S couplers for travel, and being very impressed.

S&S couplers are truly the deal if you want a real packable bike.
