I'm an idiot. After a slightly hair raising moment on the ride home today in freezing conditions and sleet I decided that maybe the 700x25 slicks weren't the ideal tyre for the winter. So I get home and start putting on a set of Conti Speed Kings I have in the shed, nice fat (35) tyres and quite soft rubber. Turns out they're a mm or two too big for the mudguards, so now I've put the original tyres back on and I think I'll leave it as I spent this months bike budget on new brakes and pair of long tights.

If it snows I'll just take the mountain bike and ignore the 30 minutes I wasted changing tyres around.

Yeah, I had bought a 700x25 tire (why one? I dunno :bang:) with quite a bit of tread for the rainy season. Unfortunately I had put it on the rear wheel for better traction when taking off at a stop. Well, of course soon after it rained I found out why I should've had it on the front, or maybe both! But I haven't been able to find the same tire or raise the $$$ for fenders.

So until then, I'll be the commuter inching his bike around turns when it rains.:p

I asked a friend who rides 23 tires. After the streets are plowed ?
He uses a Michelin tire. I think it's called a lion or ion?
It has a gumstrip just off each side of the centerline.
