Foo - Halloween is for children

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to a Halloween party with my girlfriend this Friday, and she wants us to dress up in costumes for it. Now, I'm about to turn 30, and I haven't dressed up for Halloween since I was 14 years old (and even then I thought that maybe I was getting too old for this). I'm going to feel ridiculous dressed in a costume, and I'm going to be embarrassed by the pictures that are surely going to be taken.
Was it always like this? I thought Halloween was supposed to be for kids. I don't mind getting together for a party, but can't we at least act like grown ups?
Halloween can also be a chance for adults to act like kids again, or take the costume party to a more risque adult appropriate level.

Seriously? My 23 year old brother still dresses up and goes Trick-or-Treating. I'm not trick-or-treating this year because I'm gonna dress up as the headless bicycle rider and scare all the little weinies across the road.

Go as LA and the GF can be a podium girl.
Last Saturday I went to a party and didn't feel like dressing up - I told everyone I was Joe The Plumber.

I was in the same boat, until I livened up and realized that Halloween is a day where adults can actually let loose without societal repercussions.
With that said, I'm dressing up this year. It's the first time I've done so since I was little. I'm deciding between Roberto Heras, USPS edition, Kanye West or Joe the Plumber.
Let's get Pcad to dress up as Johnny Lunchpail, and then I'll kick his arse. :p

I used to think so also. But I have resigned myself to dress up for parties to appease my wife.:o

Anyone that thinks anything is "just for children" or considers themselves to adults to do things deserve to miss out on such fun as dressing up for Halloween  Im 43, thats right, 43, and I still dress up for Halloween! Why? Because its fun! :thumb: Just like being around a bunch of "adults" that think they are to old/adult to do things is BORING! (to me anyway) and please dont think that Im not a responsible person, I am :) We've raised to children, have owned our home for around 20 years now, own both our vehicles, have been retired going on eight years, and we all have our futures laid out for us :) Not bragging, just saying ;)

Just wear a suit, and order martinis. (bond)
Or wear said suit, and a clear rain poncho, splatter some blood on it (optional), and carry an axe. Feel free to obsess over business cards. (patrick bateman)

Well . . . um . . . I'm somewhat older than you and I dress up every year, at work and at home. Last year I even wore my giant yellow banana costume 13 miles home on the recumbent. Admittedly, no one at my house would venture outside to take my picture on the bike while I had the costume on (4 out of 4 said no!) but I'll be changing out of my work costume (ostrich jockey this year) to the giant banana for the commute home again on Friday, so maybe I'll get that picture after all. If it's too stressful, then don't, but if you try it, you might find its all in good fun.

I got invited to a co-worker's Halloween party, and if I go at all (not really a fan of crowds/parties/etc.) I'll dress as Captain Spaulding.
Sid Haig's evil clown Captain Spaulding, not Groucho Marx' safari explorer Captain Spaulding.
Tis a most magical time of the year for me, and my favorite holiday - Samhein!

I'm going to have my own Halloween party. We're going to sit in our smoking jackets, sipping cognac and discussing Proust.
Halloween is for critical mass.
In my case, costumed critical mass. FTW

copycat. I was going to do the same thing, but it was just gonna be me. Oh, but instead of a smoking jacket, I am gonna dress like Princess Leah from that Jabba the Hut scene.
And instead of cognac, I am going to be drinking Strawberry Milk through a silly straw.
and instead of Proust, I will be on BF, making an arse of myself.

My wife and I on last years Salsa Cruise Halloween party :D I didnt have time to apply the black eye makeup under the mask :( I asked her to go as one of Mikeys victims but she refused :( The other pics are of us without flash as it bought out the look of the mask, there are pics of random others enjoying the party too.

I don't "get" Halloween. I can't stand the parties, and I sure as heck can't stand even the thought of dressing up.
That being said, two years ago my wife wanted to go to a Halloween party with her fellow grad students. It was very clear that it was mandatory to dress up, so my wife talked me into it. She even dressed quite sexy (waaaaaay out of her element).
We got there, and out of 20 or so people, we were the ONLY ones dressed up, and everyone kept saying how sexy my wife's costume was and how surprised they were to see her dressed like she was.
Talk about feeling as uncomfortable as possible. We didn't stay very long. My wife was actually more upset than I was, and I felt pretty bad about it.
Never again.
Oh, wait, we are bringing the new baby around this year. Oh, well, can't get away from it completely, I guess.

Halloween is a female's excuse to dress provocatively (cat, nurse, french maid, playboy bunny, etc....)
If everyone had the "I'm not dressing up for Halloween" attitude, we'd never get to see them in those outfits.
I vote for this thread to be turned into a photo thread of all above mentioned costumes...

My girlfriend is going to dress up as Juno (from the movie) and wants me to be Paulie Bleeker (Ugh!) Of course be being Paulie Bleeker is kinda necessary for her costume so I feel kinda obligated to do it. :(

I don't like couple's costumes. But if I had to, I would paint "Angry Eyebrows" on my wife and I would be in my full team kit riding my bike in another part of the neighborhood. Seems fitting.

I'm 36 now. This year we're moving right around halloween so the silliness will be put off...but next year I hope to have our annual halloween party at our new house ;)

Halloween is my favorite time of the year. This year my girlfriend and I are dressing up...i'm going as a cross between an evil clown and a priest, and she is going to be an evil nun. I don't go trick or treating, but its still fun to go out and walk the streets and try to scare some of the people out that night..haha
it's so fun to dress up in costumes, I don't know why you feel embarrassed at all, and I'm the one who is supposed to be introverted :innocent:
