So I went on a nice ride during my lunch break on my fixed gear and realized that I am annoyed by a few things about biking in the spring, here in the Mid Atlantic
1) It is cold in the morning and warm(er) in the afternoon so I always have to extra clothes to carry back on the ride home - I commute to work on my bike
2) WIND - yeesh, will the wind ever stop?
3) Directly related to wind - frozen penis. It is warm enough to wear minimal long sleeve shirts, pants but ooooohh the wind....I need to pack an extra sock, hehe.

AH the infamous frozen penis. thats my favorite part. I also love it when the wind tosses you around the road, and when the wind is hitting your right side, pushing you towards traffic(this only seems to happen soon before a semi blows by you at double nickles)
I also enjoy the hit or miss weather, suny and beatiful often turns to cold rain, the cold mornings leading into warmth. Another great thing is when its cold enough to form ice, then the ice stays ice in the shadows, unlike the ice that melts in the sun, so you approach it not thinking anything of it, then next thing you know, youre on the ground!! spring rocks!!

Hay fever really sucks! I think the allergy drug companies are secretly flying high altitude planes and dropping allergy inducing substances into the air. :D

I took my own advice and used another sock for the commute home. 8.5 miles into a headwind on a cold day, and everything was toasty :D
There is no hay fever around here yet, too cold and windy for the trees and plants to start blooming.
Almost forgot, we in DC will have to deal with swarms a zicadas (sp?) in a little while. That should be fun, as fun as a plauge of locusts, errr, zicadas, can be.
Is anyone else getting these 17 year zicadas?

One of the hazards of spring riding in these parts is the huges amount of gravel on the roads and shoulders. Spring cleanup can't come fast enough. :(
I'm getting the cicadas here too. good protein.

not Cicadas, but we get to deal with Japanese beatles here in Bowling Green(Toledo area), little lady bug like things that are friggin everywhere. I had to wear a mouth cover for about a week so i wouldn't breathe them in.

Those f#$^ers hurt when they bite, too!
That frozen penis thing made me laugh. A couple of weeks ago, I went for a ride wearing my army surplus combat pants with the zipper that opens both ways. Under those, I wore long-johns without a fly button. I had been riding for about a hour with the customary frozen penis when I happened to look down. Seems my zipper had worked it's way up and my junk had worked it's way out. I have no idea how long I'd been riding like that, but it made laugh to think I'd been riding about downtown with my weiner blowing in the wind.

Flooded roads. The snow melts and it rains and floods everything. The flat easy routes that are good to get back into shape with are all under water.
Salt chunks. I hate the sound and feel of hitting pieces of salt used to melt the ice on the road. Better salt than glass though!!

Yeah, it's been unusually windy here in the midwest, as well. It seems to warm up enough in the afternoon but the morning.........yikes.
Another problem is all of the rain during the spring.

Not to offend anyone but what annoys me the most is the first warm, sunny day when all the ladies appear. Short skirts and halter tops make it hard to keep my eyes on the road.

I've spent the last four or five months complaining about Winter. I can't work up alot of enthusiasm for complaining about Spring.
Drizzle and Mud, I can't wait.

1. Arm and leg warmers and multiple light layers (one windblock) make it easy to adjust without much additional bulk.
2. Sorry can't help you there. Get down in those drops.
3. A pair of craft wind resistant briefs would solve your frostbite problem.

here in the land of eternal spring, i'd have to say my biggest annoyance (aside from bad drivers) is glass on the road.

Yeah, they're all whining about chilly willies, and I couldn't even think of anything to post!
