Commuting - panniers and trunk bag??

I currently have a topeak trunk bag with expandable panniers but constantly find that they do not hold enough. I picked up a set of ortlieb classic panniers, but when they are installed on the rack i can no longer install my trunk bag. What is the solution for this problem? I would like to be able to have both installed at the same time or replace the topeak bag with a trunk bag that will work with the ortlieb panniers. Or maybe a different rack?

What are your guys' thoughts?

Hmm... I have a blackburn rack, an Arkel commuter pannier on the left (for my laptop), and a no-name pannier on the right (for clothes) and a nashbar trunk bag. It's tight, but they all fit. The trick for me is to put the trunk bag on first. If I try to put it on last it won't fit. Crazy, but the order of mounting of bags is important (at least for me).

You need a different rack. In particular, the Topeak Super Tourist DX. What sucks is you probably already have a Topeak rack, and if you'd known about this, you'd have paid the extra $10 to get it.

I find that with the panniers I have, the panniers and rack bag still foul each other a little bit, but it works fairly well. And if you need mega capacity you could always use the topeak panniers as well!

Are you using the Topeak rack? I occasionally use the trunk bag with a set of Trek panniers and it works, but they are built a bit different than the fancy Ortliebs. You may have a different model trunk bag than me too.

dang i never knew. i think that might do the trick. im ordering that rack right now. hopefully that will solve my problem. thanks for the advice.

Take a lot at a Top Peak trunk bag, the Touring Store has them. There is a lot of adjustability in the
straps that connect to your rack. I can put the Top Peak trunk bag and a set of Top Peak panniers
on the back rack of a Trek 520; it all works pretty well together.

Answer: a smaller trunk bag?

This is the main reason I got the Trek Interchange trunk and panniers.
I can use all three and they work awesomely.
