Hey, here's my new Rascal frame. I'm told it is a 92-93 and it's a small size. I've got to replace the bottom bracket which is a bummer as these aren't too easy to do. My lbs has some Klein connections so I'm hoping it can get done by the right people.

My questions are as follows
I've got a 108mm spindle which means I can only run an older (M900 I think) crank, am I limited with what cassetes and rear derailleurs (ie the cassete and derailleur have to be the same vintage) I can use? I am going to make it a single speed for now, but in the future I may want to add a rear derailleur.

I'm in need of some forks and it seems as though my 1 inch head tube is making this a bit challenging. The stock bike came with chro-mo forks, is there anyplace that carries rigid forks, both alu and chro-mo? What about carbon forks?

Since the frame has a stinger for routing the rear brake cable for use with canti's I've been debating whether or not to use a canti on the rear and v-brake on the front. Am I wasting my time with the canti on the rear? As for brake choices I was thinking a period correct XTR unit for the canti on the rear and perhaps a newer Avid unit on the front. What about levers? I've heard that canti's and v-brakes need different length pulls, can one lever satisfy both?

I assume that once I get some forks situated that I can find a stem as a couple lbs's have piles of stems, do I have to stick with a quill style, or can I use a 1 inch clamping stem?

And last but not least,

What would you guys do for a build? I'm going to repaint it (thinking a satin black and dark gray "klein" with clear coat)

Here's the pictures, sorry for the bad quality, I'll get some better ones tomorrow

Thanks for the help, this site is great!

That bike potentially has some vintage collector value. I would not repaint it. I would build it up with some high end, period correct parts.

Are you positive its a 1" steerer? The head tube looks a little fatter in the pic..

Not sure about that model of Klein but I remember some of the ones back in the day used an oddball Klein fork and integrated headset. I remember racing against a guy that had a klein in the early 90's that he mounted a Manitou fork on some how or another. From what I can remember and this is many braincells ago the Kleins were all quill stems as well, and I remember them also making some weird stem bar combo. I rode Cannondales back then so I'm not alot of help. Cool bike though....I wanted one back in the day.

The paint is chipped really bad, coming off in areas. I think a repaint, though getting rid of the stock job, will clean it up at least. With some wet sanding I think it'll look pretty good

It does look fat in that picture, but it's definitely a 1 inch. I've found some chro mo forks I think I'm going to go with.

Since the bottom bracket is pressed in I'm going to have to find someone to r&r those bearings, and the only cranks I can run are older XTR (m900) or Suntour XC race. I think I'm going to try XTR instead. I'll keep it single speed for now, but I'm going to try and get my hands on an older XTR deraileur just to keep it period correct if I want to run a 1x8 setup
