View Full Version : Fix for LiPo charger?

Yep...I did it. In spite of all the polarity warnings, I got the polarity on the charger wrong.
Worked fine until I decided to go with better connectors yesterday.

I thought I had the connections on the charger correct and didn't bother (read forgot) to check polarity. Plugged in only for an instant...sparks...quick unplug...corrected polarity...no charge function.

Sent an e-mail to Ping asking about a new charger, but I only have a 3/4 charge left to enjoy the ride on these last few nice days of fall. Bummer.

I'll be taking the charger to an electrician friend (bracing for his razzing) as soon as he gets back from Cancun, but have any of you folks figured out a fix for a blown charger?

P.S. Don't tell my brother I was so stupid.

i have fixed a few, somtimes its cheaper to buy a new one. but most of the time its a bad trace or fuse. easy fix.

Thanks Karma...
I get no continuity across that tiny fuse. I'm going to jump it and see what happens.

I talked to Ping and I'll be getting another charger soon.

I jumped the fuse...no luck.
Then, I got to examining the DC circuit with a photographers' loop and saw some burned elements.

There are more burned areas, but I got tired of making arrows.
I think I'm outta luck.

I'll have to be careful not to run the battery pack down to far before I get my new charger.

Ping says I can charge with the sla charger (if it doesn't have neg pulse...whatever that is) in an emergency, but he doesn't recommend using it often.
